Greetings. I am a PhD organic chemist with years of experience as a teaching assistant, lab supervisor, professor, and tutor for both undergraduate and graduate level classes. I have experience in synthetic organic chemistry, analytical chemistry, bioorganic chemistry (peptide chemistry, nucleic acids, etc.) and have applied my research to many different areas (cancer, HIV, gene therapy, electrochemiluminescence probes, et al.).
I enjoy working with students of all ages/aptitudes (high school students struggling to get through the class all the way up to college students just looking to boost their grades) and have spent many hours thinking about the pedagogy of chemistry. I have taught General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry I and II at the college level, and I firmly believe I can help anybody to not only understand the chemistry fundamentals necessary to excel academically but also apply their new found grasp of chemistry to impact their desired career (research, medicine, engineering, etc.). The perspective gained from understanding the underlying chemistry can add remarkable clarity to any number of other areas of inquiry. Greetings. Able to answer all questions and uncertainties I may have. We review thoroughly an entire chapter. He clearly knows his material extremely well because it's easy for him to teach me
Ethan is a knowledgeable tutor who explains difficult concepts in a clear and helpful way. My daughter always leaves the sessions with a full understanding of what they covered. He is very ready to help anytime my daughter needs him either in person or online.
Honestly I wish Ethan was my professor! Really helps breakdown concepts easy and best of all SLOWLY! He makes sures you understand before moving on! Very helpful! This is my first time using a tutor so glad I was recommended the right one the first time! HE IS A ORGO GENIUS! Definitely take him if you are struggling I'm sure you will be happy!
We were in a rush to find someone to help our son with some material before his final, and Ethan responded to our inquiry within an hour. He is extremely knowledgeable, and he explained lots of material in an accessible, efficient manner. Great experience, and we strongly recommend him.
Ethan caught me up on three weeks of material in three sessions. He was very patient and willing to help at the last minute. He helped me see trends across organic reactions, as well as exactly why they occur.
I couldn't recommend him more highly.
Ethan is very nice - he is professional and makes sure he understands what the student wants to cover before the lesson. He obviously understands chemistry very well and really tries to make sure the student understands WHY the answer is the one it is. He's also great at showing me how to eliminate answers that don't necessarily make sense for the problem. Thanks!
Ethan is a highly qualified professional tutor with an amazing teaching skill. He is very efficient and well prepared. He has a unique approach to organic chemistry, not only simplifying complicated topics, but by creating an interest and inspiration to the student. Our daughter has benefited so much and is motivated with the subject. Thank you.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
As an undergraduate, I was a teaching assistant for general chemistry, physical chemistry (both thermodynamics and quantum mechanics) and quantitative analysis. I have taught general chemistry specifically at the college level. I have tutored students, including extensively in the last two years, currently taking honors chemistry, AP chemistry and various College level General Chemistry courses. I put a heavy emphasis on understanding the concepts and constantly relating the problems, questions, equations, etc. to previously learned fundamentals.
I have a PhD in organic chemistry from Northwestern University. As a teaching assistant while at Northwestern, I instructed undergraduate organic students for the lab portion of Organic 1 and Organic 2, as well as assisted in the teaching of the graduate course Physical Organic Chemistry. My graduate work was mostly in synthetic organic chemistry with the post doctoral fellowship (NIH) focusing on bioorganic and physical organic chemistry. Since then, I have taught both Organic 1 and Organic 2 as an adjunct chemistry professor at the college level. Overall, I have instructed, assisted or tutored in this subject for over 17 years.
