Writing

In my over 20 years of teaching and tutoring experience, I have worked with students with language based learning disabilities as well as those from a variety of linguistic and cultural backgrounds. I am also versed in a number of note taking and outlining techniques including programs such as Empower that many students find helpful. While some of these areas may seem less relevant to working with high school college level English students, these assignments provide a wealth of experience in editing techniques that can be employed to assist all students in completing the types of papers and writing assignments common in English coursework.

Extremely patient and supportive tutor

I've worked with Andrea now for just two lessons. She is incredibly positive and supportive. I really appreciate how she started with me taking control of what I needed to work on so that she can find material that is appropriate. She is very flexible with her hours which has been extremely helpful for a working mom! Finally, she is slowly weaving in test taking strategies during her time with me- which can only help me on the day of my test. I look forward to learning more from her!

My daughter has only had three lessons with Andrea so far, but she is very happy. She is starting to feel more confident in her abilities and has done better on her last two quizzes. She looks forward to working with her for the rest of the semester.

Patient, kind tutor

Currently, Andrea has helped with prealgebra and algebra 1 in preparation for the ACT. Andrea is patent and kind, and for student like me with Asperger's and NLD these qualities greatly assist my ability to learn. I would highly recommend Andrea to anyone with learning disabilities.

Very understanding

We have worked with Andrea to help my Son prepare for SAT's. He was very reluctant to start this tutoring as he was being nagged in school by his teachers and support staff. My son is 16 and Dyslexic. He had a low self esteem and Andrea was able to show him that he knew the answers he was just getting confused with the formulas to use in math and needed to make his essays longer for english. He is now ready for the exams and believes in himself. All thanks to Andrea who knew when he had checked out; when he was trying to play her and when it really was his best effort. I would totally recommend Andrea!!!

"Makes learning fun!"

My son is studying to take the ISEE and has significant catch-up to do in math. When I went to pick him up at the library at the end of his session, he gently resisted -- he was having too much fun subtracting and working through word problems! Thank you, Andrea!!
