I’m Grace, a PhD candidate in Chemical Oceanography with a background in Environmental Science, 5+ years of private tutoring experience, and experience as a teaching assistant. I tutor General Chemistry, Environmental Science, and Ocean Science, working with high school and college students.

I specialize in breaking complex scientific and quantitative problems into manageable steps while making sure students understand the underlying concepts—not just how to get the answer. My interdisciplinary background in chemistry, physics, biology, geology, and oceanography gives me a broad perspective, while my research experience has strengthened my quantitative problem-solving skills.

I’ve taught at the K–12 and undergraduate levels and continue to develop my teaching skills through graduate coursework in education. I adapt my approach to each student and particularly enjoy helping students who understand concepts during lecture but struggle to apply them independently. Together, we’ll identify where they’re getting stuck and develop a systematic approach to solving problems.

I aim to create a low-pressure environment where students can ask questions, work through confusion, and build confidence. I can help with foundational concepts, practice problems, exam preparation, and specific assignments.

I primarily work with students seeking ongoing tutoring in high school or introductory college chemistry and environmental science, though I’m also available for last minute exam prep when my schedule permits.

My Fall 2026 availability is limited to a few consistent weekly slots, with occasional additional openings. Please reach out even if your schedule doesn’t exactly match my listed availability.

Cancellation policy: Please provide at least 8 hours’ notice for cancellations or rescheduling whenever possible. Sessions cancelled with less than 8 hours’ notice may be subject to the session fee, except in cases of emergencies.

Chemistry

I have over 5 years of experience tutoring high school-level Chemistry, AP Chemistry, college-level general chemistry, and more advanced courses. I completed my core chemistry courses as an undergraduate with straight A's, and I am currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Chemistry. Throughout my academic journey as both a student and a researcher, I have developed a strong foundation in chemistry and gained valuable insights into problem-solving techniques, tips, and strategies for tackling complex concepts. Whether you need help understanding core concepts, refining problem-solving approaches, or preparing for exams, I am happy to assist.
Earth Science

Earth Science

I am a current Ph.D. student in Chemical Oceanography. I previously earned a B.A. in Environmental Science (Honors), graduating summa cum laude. I have taken extensive advanced coursework related to Earth Science at the undergraduate and graduate level, ranging from climate science to isotope geochemistry to hydrology to ocean science. I have classroom teaching experience as a TA for undergraduate geology and have previously tutored high school students preparing for the AP Environmental Science exam.
Environmental Science

Environmental Science

Need to study for the AP Environmental Science exam? I can help! I am a current Ph.D. student in Chemical Oceanography. I have a B.A. in Environmental Science (Honors), graduating summa cum laude with a 4.0 GPA. I have taken extensive advanced coursework related to environmental science at the undergraduate and graduate level, ranging from climate science to isotope geochemistry to hydrology to ocean science. I have classroom teaching experience as a TA for undergraduate geology.
Geology

Geology

With a BA in Environmental Science and as a current PhD student in Chemical Oceanography, I completed introductory geology courses as well as advanced graduate-level courses in specialized topics in geology. I have also worked as a teaching assistant for an introductory geology course, giving me teaching experience in the subject.

Grace is by far the best tutor I've ever had.

Have been working with Grace in order to level-up in General Chemistry I. She is fantastic. Kind, considerate, prepared and organized; she is an absolute rock star. I always enjoy our sessions together and I always leave smarter than I started. She uses Zoom whiteboard which is 100 times better than Wyzant's whiteboard -- this makes a surprising impact for me to be able to scroll around / zoom-in / zoom-out on the various pieces of these long chemistry problems. I am so glad to have met her. I just hope I can convince her to tutor me throughout all chemistry classes in my future!!

Amazingly thorough

She helped my daughter with chemistry concepts including molecular bonding. She gave her confidence to take her next test. We have used her several times. She is better at explaining the concepts than her actual teacher.

Incredibly kind and knowledgable!

She was very patient and went over even the most basic concepts that I did not understand. She explained everything nice and slow in terms that would be easier to understand, and she went back over topics I was still struggling with. I went from being completely lost on my chemical oceanography assignment to fully understanding it! I would highly highly recommend Grace! I felt very comfortable talking to her and very confident after leaving the call!
