Hey there! I'm an MIT grad with a background in math, computer science, and physics. I first started teaching in middle school with my dad, who has a great interest in education. Throughout middle school and high school, we would host weekly math and programming classes at our home, switching to online when COVID hit. In these classes, I gained a newfound appreciation for material I'd already learnt (an experience intrinsic to teaching itself!). I wanted to be more like a survival instructor than a tour guide, so I had to learn to balance mystery and frustration: placing scaffolding for problems when needed, without revealing too much. I loved the secondhand satisfaction seeing students proud at solving an initially hard problem, supported in unknown terrain through discussion and encouragement.
I will share a few more teaching experiences. In high school, I had the opportunity to be a teaching assistant (TA) and eventually guest lecturer at a theoretical CS summer camp, a virtual reality bootcamp instructor for 5th/6th grade students, an AIME (American Invitational Math Exam) prep course instructor, and AP Physics TA, among other mentorship roles. Recently, I have continued tutoring online classes with my dad from time to time, and I am excited to get back into more one-on-one tutoring!
As for my technical qualifications: in high school, I qualified for the AIME four times, earned a perfect score on the SAT, and earned a prize for math communication. I've built various websites, competed in and written problems for cybersecurity competitions, and created a math competition series with my friends. My majors during undergrad were Physics (8) and Math+CS (18C), so I've taken a variety of courses, from machine learning to number theory to quantum physics. Throughout my education, I've found that I love learning and sharing my learnings with others. I'm grateful to the mentors that have taught me thus far, and I would enjoy the opportunity to be your tutor.
