Hello! I'm Sophia, a current Harvard College senior studying the Classics and English. I'm from the suburbs of Chicago, but my family now calls Utah home. I love to learn and find joy in sharing this love with others! I bring enthusiasm to each lesson and am patient in seeking to understand each student's needs.
In high school, I received 5s on the AP exams for US History, European History, and Art History. I scored a 36 on the Reading and English portions of the ACT; separately, I earned summa cum laude on the National Latin Exam. I served as a volunteer 1:1 tutor for Latin, and used games and mnemonics to internalize grammar concepts. With enthusiasm and encouragement, I develop personal relationships with students to build confidence in what they already know and bring clarity to confusing topics.
After my first year of college, I took time off and lived in Washington state for 18 months, during which I taught religion classes to a wide variety of people, ranging in age from elementary school kids to retired individuals. Having lived across the United States and having worked with a variety of individuals, I'm able to tailor my teaching to your specific needs.
I've also served as a volunteer college consultant for students applying to competitive schools. In doing so, I listen to your experiences and interests, then work with you to highlight your voice and clearly communicate your story.
I'm dedicated to helping you have a positive and encouraging experience while learning, and I'm looking forward to working with you!
