I think patience is extremely important for a tutor. I know firsthand how it feels to see someone getting frustrated when you don't understand a problem or concept, so I always make sure to adjust my pace for each individual student and check for understanding beyond a simple yes/no answer.
Some of my background knowledge on the topics I tutor comes from personal experience. My experience working on political campaigns, for example, comes in handy with AP Government. When it comes to college admissions and essay writing, I can tap into the entire semester of junior year I spent searching for every possible resource on college admissions I could find on the internet. I browsed college admissions forums on the bus to school, read college admissions ebooks during meals, and listened to college admissions podcasts during workouts; it was exciting and exhausting at the same time. I want to share with you the insights and intuition I gained during my college application season and save you time in the process!
