I'm Celeste! I graduated summa cum laude from Whitman College with a degree in Philosophy and Politics and I'm currently preparing for a Master's in Public Policy program at Harvard University. I have always loved school and I love to learn, but I also know that is not everyone's experience. Whether you're feeling discouraged in your classes or you're eager to get started on an essay assignment, I'm here to help!
For three years, I worked as a Writing Fellow at Whitman College where I supported college-aged students refine their writing skills by working through essay assignments and offering assistance and encouragement at each stage of the writing process. In my experience, students found it most helpful to have my support in dialing in on an essay topic and crafting a thesis statement – these sessions are always my favorite as well!
Over the years, I have also worked as a Tutor with Sylvan Learning, conducting online math, reading, and writing sessions for elementary and middle school students. When tutoring younger students, I ensure sessions are fun and engaging to avoid burnout and discouragement. I find it helpful to introduce a new math concept or explore a new writing method by relating it to something in their own life (e.g. imagine you are trying to persuade your dad to let you spend the night at a friend’s house).
Through these experiences, I have developed an encouraging, approachable, and focused tutoring methodology that is adaptable to a student’s specific needs and goals. I believe learning happens best when students feel heard and understood, so I work hard to create a space where asking questions is applauded and concepts are broken down clearly. My core writing approach is grounded in helping students find their voice and sharpen their ideas. In math, I guide students to understand the logic behind the steps, not just memorize them. Whether we're working on a personal statement or systems of equations, I tailor our sessions to your goals, pace, and learning style.
