Hi there! I’m Kiva, a recent magna cum laude graduate from the University of Southern California with a degree in History and a minor in Computer Science. I’m originally from Cambridge, MA, but recently returned from the enriching experience of living in Nagano, Japan for a year. There, I not only immersed myself in Japanese culture but also tutored local students in English.

At USC, I consistently made the Dean’s List and earned high honors for my senior thesis, which explored the intersection of consumer studies and Japanese history. I also received the Foulke Undergraduate Research Award for my published paper on the historiographic debate of such topics and was honored with the Student Opportunities for Academic Research (SOAR) Award, working as a research assistant for Professor Aro Velmet. These experiences have deeply shaped my understanding of writing, research, and critical analysis.

In my tutoring roles, I’ve worked with a range of students. With the Science Club for Girls, I made science engaging for 1st and 2nd graders through hands-on experiments. I’ve also helped 8th graders tackle math challenges, working side-by-side with them on various assignments, and have also assisted Japanese students with English.

I prefer a visual approach to teaching—using diagrams and real-world examples to make abstract concepts more concrete and relatable. This method not only clarifies difficult topics but also helps students connect their learning to everyday life.

I’m passionate about writing and love helping others develop their skills in this area. My goal is to create a supportive and dynamic learning environment where students feel confident and inspired. I’m excited about the chance to work with your child and support their academic journey!
