My name is Lucy and I recently graduated magna cum laude from Williams College with a bachelor's degree in English and psychology. While in undergrad at Williams, I worked as a tutor in the Writing Workshop for three years, providing one-on-one writing assistance to Williams students. Among other tasks, I would typically help students revise papers, work on grammar & ESL mechanics, develop and hone writing skills, and nurture positive study habits. I worked with a range of ages, from freshmen to graduate students, and covered a very broad variety of writing types, including lab reports, policy papers, English papers, and more. As part of the Workshop, I also elected to work in the Writing Partners Program, which paired first-year students in particular need of writing assistance with tutors so that they could work closely with one another over the course of a semester. Lastly, I worked as a teaching assistant for an introductory English course at Williams on the feminist poetry movement and held regular office hours for students in the class to work on developing their writing skills.
I think what I love most about teaching writing is helping students develop a love for their own written voice, as well as an ability to discover their own unique mode of expression. I enjoy adapting to different learning styles and am a very patient listener; furthermore, I always try to adjust my own methods to respond directly to what works for each individual student. I appreciate feedback and am understanding of the fact that developing writing skills takes a lot of dedicated practice, communication, and vulnerability.
Although I specialize in tutoring writing, I am also able to tutor in psychology, as well as any subject for grades K-6. I would also be more than happy to assist students with college essay writing for applications. Please feel free to reach out with any additional questions!
