On occasion I'll have the pleasure of building a lasting relationship with a family that I've assisted long term for enrichment, but more often my clients are looking to catch up - and quickly. My experience and expertise at communicating math concepts fills in the gaps and prepares students to handle new concepts independently. I know what the high school curriculum and typical college syllabus wants you to be able to do. I know which topics will be covered in succession of one another. I can show you how to do it, and quickly.

Specific subjects I have tutored in the past include Calculus I, II, and III, Pre-calculus and Trigonometry, SAT Prep, Pre-algebra, Algebra I and II, Geometry, Basic Probability and Statistics, and Differential Equations. I have some serious expertise teaching each of these courses at all levels - take a look at my descriptions for specific subjects for more info.

Due to work commitments, I am currently accepting new students on weekday evenings, and I have a minimum 60 minute lesson policy. I am currently accepting in-person students in and around Burlington, MA, and I have a very sophisticated workstation setup for online tutoring. Approved Subjects

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

The first time learning Algebra is a potentially difficult process for many. Even students with historical success in math can be thrown off by the elevated work requirement needed to do well. I've worked with dozens of students who endured Algebra for the first time, and I know what works and what doesn't. I'm a strong authority when it comes to getting my students to understand, in part because of my experience, and in part because I know the curriculum and common test practices very, very well.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

Algebra 2, in most high schools, follows the year where a student takes Geometry. For this reason, students often go a whole year or more without doing any Algebra, and the transition can leave a student worse for wear. One thing I excel at is recognizing and getting students in this category to remember the important aspects of Algebra that they might have forgotten. I'm also masterful in terms of explaining the concepts presented in this course, having been teaching Algebra privately since 2007.
Calculus

Calculus

By far one of my favorite subjects to teach, Calculus holds a special place with me - it was the first subject I formally taught to others. Calculus is tough. There's a reason many students aren't required to take it unnecessarily or opt not to if possible. Much of it is less "here are the steps" like algebra tends to be, and more "analyze and try a few possible steps". It can be frustrating to sort through such a thick topic alone, especially one that requires mastery of nearly everything learned from grades 3-12. Fortunately, I'm here to be the navigator that knows exactly how curriculums progress and what your instructor wants you to be able to do. I have particular expertise at all levels of Calculus, including AP exam prep (both AB and BC) and college Calculus (including not only single variable derivatives and integrals but also multivariable Calculus).
Prealgebra

Pre-Algebra is something I enjoy teaching because it is such a keystone in a successful math journey. I truly enjoy being part of teaching the foundations and fundamentals correctly because it's rewarding to see students working with the basics at a mastery level that I know they should have, so that when the formal Algebra course follows next year the anxiety is minimized and the grades are maximized.
Precalculus

Precalculus

Infamous for frustrating Juniors and Seniors for decades, Pre-Calc is one of the "hot" subjects that define why tutoring is so valuable. There is a lot of new, detail-oriented, and different topics that first appear in this course, and many students who previously found themselves excelling in math get taken by surprise. Fortunately, as one of my favorite topics to teach, Pre-Calc is completely cataloged to me - I've taught each topic so many times that I know both the order and timeline in which topics progress, as well as the best way to teach each. In short, I'm an absolute expert with Pre-Calculus and Trigonometry.

Probability is a subject that I've worked closely with for a long time. I've used my expertise to help dozens of students with everything from high-school intro or AP courses to college level Prob & Stats. Whether you're getting into the basics of hypothesis testing, or jumping into regression or probability distributions, I can help you.

Trigonometry

Trigonometry

Often included with Pre-Calculus, Trigonometry is a challenging topic for many reasons. A thorough exploration of triangles and their applications to algebra and the coordinate plane are a detailed, intricate topic that looks great on a college application but is a challenge to truly understand and succeed at. I've taught the concepts of Trig countless times, and really enjoy sharing my expertise with students. The memorization tricks and insight I have are what separate me from other educators in Trig. My past success stories are the evidence!

Matthew and I have met on multiple occasions and each session he has been incredible. He is very responsive, patient, and understanding. He comes to every meeting prepared with his materials, such as textbooks and other outside examples. He easily and simply relays information, and when one approach does not work, he is quick to explain from alternative perspectives. Over all, I would suggest him to anyone with any math understanding, as he will not quit until you have achieved mastery.

Very knowledgeable

I have been working with Matthew to study for the ASTB test. (Officer entrance exam). There is a lack of study materials for this particular test but it is somewhat similar to the GRE. Matthew has been awesome at helping me get prepared because a lot of my problem is not remembering the basics! Every math problem we work on he is able to teach me how to do the problem as well as showing me the basic math concepts that we used to complete the problem. I would highly recommend him to anyone who is studying for an exam!

Mathematical Miracle!

I'm so thankful we found Matthew to help our daughter with statistics. I was nervous about online tutoring, but after a few minor glitches and a lot of help from a Matthew, it worked out well. He is kind, helpful, patient, and easy to understand. Matthew was great and very patient. We worked through some complicated for a first course regression stuff, and I felt I gained a huge amount of understanding in two hours as compared to trying to work through the chapter multiple times on my own. He also was very accommodating in arranging his schedule and our meeting place to fit with my deadlines and my work schedule, on short notice. I arrived feeling really concerned about lack of knowledge on this topic and left feeling tremendously much more confident.
