Hi, I'm Ahmed. I hold a Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Engineering (Chemical Engineering focus) from Khalifa University, completed in collaboration with MIT (Cambridge, MA), along with a Master's degree (4.0/4.0) and a First Class Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering. My academic training is rooted in mathematics, physics, and chemistry, which I apply daily in both research and teaching.

I have several years of teaching and mentoring experience at the university level: course lecturer for General Chemistry, assistant instructor for Chemical Engineering Thermodynamics and Chemical Reaction Engineering, and teaching assistant for transport phenomena and engineering statistics. In these roles I led problem-solving sessions, designed exams and quizzes, ran office hours, and supervised undergraduate and Ph.D. students on research and design projects.

I also tutor calculus, differential equations, and upper-level chemical engineering courses like reactor analysis and design, mass and momentum transfer, and material and energy balances, including the MATLAB work that comes with them. These courses build on each other, so before we touch the applied problem, I make sure the underlying math is solid. That's usually where students lose points on exams, even when they actually understand the concept.

I've also spent six-plus years as a peer reviewer for scientific journals, including Chemical Engineering Journal, Catalysis Today, and the Journal of Environmental Chemical Engineering. That's exactly the kind of scrutiny I bring when proofreading or editing technical and academic writing.

Right now on Wyzant I'm working weekly with a 10th grader on algebra and chemistry, and with a third-year chemical engineering student on fluid mechanics ahead of her exams. Both are a good picture of how I teach: one-on-one, starting from wherever the gaps in fundamentals actually are, then working through step-by-step, exam-style problems until the student can do it without me.

I focus on connecting each calculus operation to what it represents physically — a derivative as a rate of change, an integral as an accumulated quantity — because that context is what makes the technique stick rather than being a memorized rule. I work with students across single-variable, multivariable, and differential calculus.

One hour, zero confusion

I booked a one-hour session on surface integrals and Stokes' theorem. No warmup, straight into the geometry. Intuition before computation. I'd read this material before, and it hadn't clicked, so that sequencing was the thing that finally made it land. My tutor tracked where I was getting lost and adjusted as we went.
