During my undergraduate years, I worked as a teaching assistant for both general and organic chemistry labs as well as an upper-level elective in instrumental analysis, helping students with the practical aspects of each course as well as the conceptual understanding needed to complete their problem sets. When leading review sessions, I tried to probe each student's thought process to identify their individual gaps in knowledge and help them to sharpen their chemical intuition. My approach is always to emphasize the underlying logics over rote memorization.
In 2022, I took the MCAT after a four-month period of self-directed studying while working full time in a research lab. I read through review materials, practiced with sample questions, and thoroughly reviewed my mistakes to understand where and why I had fallen short. What I want students to know is that preparing for the MCAT does not have to be a scary thing. The material covered may be broad, but it isn't particularly deep. With time and practice, you can familiarize yourself with the way that the MCAT asks questions so that you won't stumble and confuse yourself trying to apply the knowledge that you already have. My goal is to make your preparation as painless as possible by turning a critical eye to your weaknesses and helping you to focus your efforts in improving your test performance.
