My experiences in pursuing a career in medicine have been among the most meaningful in my life! I joined Wyzant to work with students to support them in achieving their aspirations in medicine -- because I think it's the most fulfilling career path in the world :)

I specifically work with students on preparation for USMLE Step exams as well as development of application, essay writing, and interviewing skills for medical school and residency. My expertise in these spaces stems from my background as a professional tutor at Med School Insiders. My initial love for teaching came from my time designing and teaching an accredited class to Duke undergraduates on infectious disease biology. Furthermore, during my time at Harvard Medical School, I led educational programming for medical students on chronic disease management in primary care. I am excited to bring my passion for education to help students along their journey. Please reach out to me for more information--I am eager to work with you!

Career Development

My goal is to support students in college and in medical school as they pursue careers towards a life in medicine. My expertise in this area stems from my personal journey, having completed my undergraduate at Duke University, a research fellowship at the NIH, and a global health fellowship in Thailand focused on HIV disparities. These collective experiences have helped me find my place as a graduate of Harvard Medical School and a current Resident Physician in Internal Medicine at Columbia University. I am eager to work with students to craft successful personal statements for medical school and ERAS applications, as well as to strategize about pursuing meaningful extracurricular and research opportunities on the path towards a career in medicine, and finally to build the skills to be an effective interviewee for competitive seats in medical school and residency. I am excited to support you in any way I can in finding your pathway in medicine.

USMLE

USMLE

I scored 270 on USMLE Step 1 and 259 on Step 2. I specialize in working with students to develop systematic problem-solving skills towards tackling USMLE questions, helping them break down high-yield pathophysiology in simple and digestible ways. I have experience in using multiple study tools (UWorld, AMBOSS, Anki, SketchyMicro, Boards and Beyond, Pathoma, etc.) in crafting successful study plans for USMLE exams. As a graduate of Harvard Medical School where I received Honors with Distinction (highest grade) in all my Advanced Electives, I work with students to translate USMLE concepts to clinically relevant pearls for success on the boards -- and the wards!

It’s like renting a Ferrari for the price of a Kia

Only spent one hour with Rifat, but In that time we where able to identify my strengths and weaknesses and developed a plan on how to approach the last couple of weeks leading up to my USMLE Step 1 exam. Overall very knowledgeable and I would definitely recommend you comment, like and subscribe to Dr. Rifat.

Very helpful. Highly recommend!

Rifat helped me a lot with my medical school personal statement. He is highly knowledgeable about medical school admissions process and what a personal statement should entail. I was so lost and did not know how to piece my stories together. But by the end of our session, I had a much better understanding of what was expected from a good personal statement. He took the time to thoroughly read my draft and resume and had very helpful suggestions for my essay. Highly recommend!
