I have over twenty-one years of experience teaching middle school students in grades six through eight across a wide range of subjects, including Math, English Language Arts, Science, Social Studies, Journalism, and Art. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Education from Austin Peay State University and a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Western Governors University. My certifications in Art Education EC–12 and Grades 4–8 Generalist have given me the opportunity to work in diverse classrooms in both the United States and overseas with the Department of Defense Education Activity.
Middle school is a pivotal time for students as they transition to higher academic expectations, and my teaching has always focused on guiding them through these years with confidence. I have taught in traditional classroom settings, supported students in small groups, and provided one-on-one instruction to strengthen key skills. In subjects such as reading comprehension, writing, pre-algebra, social studies, and journalism, I emphasize critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication. My journalism background has also given students opportunities to grow as writers, editors, and collaborators, which complements the academic rigor of their core classes.
In addition to working with middle schoolers, I have also taught adults in art through professional conferences and workshops. This experience has allowed me to refine my ability to adapt lessons for different age groups and learning styles while keeping instruction engaging and approachable. Whether I am teaching a middle school student who is building foundational skills or an adult looking to expand creative abilities, I focus on clarity, patience, and encouragement. I believe in helping learners gain both knowledge and confidence so they can be successful in their academic and personal goals.
