As an educator for over twenty-five years, I have always believed that individualized instruction is the most effective way to teach. Because of this, I established a professional tutoring service twelve years ago that has also focused on the "mentoring" aspects of students and their families. The need for gaining a rapport with students and their families is always on my mind, in addition to teaching concepts. I believe that it is vitally important that educators understand that the future of this great land lies with our children.

My pedagogical methods can utilize many electronic sites as well as more traditional approaches, and since I have been an adjunct professor in mathematics and English at a local community college for the past nine years, I have access to all the latest educational techniques.

When achieving my Master's of Science Degree in Education in 2006 at Indiana University at South Bend, I had the privilege to work with students in a classroom in East Porter County (Indiana). During that period, I worked hard at gaining a rapport and trust with a young fellow suffering from brain trauma (automobile accident at approximately the age of your fourth-grader). We focused mainly on mathematical concepts and I saw improvement with repetitious practice. I believe that I can transfer that same knowledge to your struggling student.

Social Studies

When I began teaching in 1991, I taught Secondary Social Studies courses of World History, United States History and American Government at Elkhart Memorial High School. I was certified by the state of Indiana to teach Grades 5-12. Since then, I have also tutored high school sociology, anthropology, economics and psychology courses. My extensive experience in developmental disabilities also extended to social studies classes in the elementary grades.
World History,

World History

When taking my education exams at Notre Dame University for my teacher certification through Indiana, one of my specialty Supporting Areas was World Civilizations, which I passed with considerable ease. That was in 1991, after studying Chinese History with a Chinese professor from Notre Dame, whose family was part of the Tianemen Square Massacre and another course in Russian History during the collapse of the Soviet Union. They were literally teaching our courses at Indiana University via phone conversations and out of the newspapers! What an incredible experience in global historical impact!! I can impart that to my students as well.

I am currently in the thirteenth week of teaching a sixteen-week semester of an Algebra I course, so concepts concerning exponent rules, all functions of polynomials and quadrant graphing of slope-intercept form are paramount on my mind. I am sure that learning these concepts will be important for your daughter as well.
Geometry,

Geometry

I teach a Geometric Concepts unit in my Fundamentals of Algebra class every semester. Also, I am presently tutoring a Bangladeshi couple in these concepts:Linear and Angle theory, Perimeter, Area, Volume and Surface Area. Later, we will be working on the Pythagorean Theorem (basis for Trigonometry) and Right Triangle Theory.
Prealgebra,

I have spent the past ten years teaching Fundamentals of Algebra, and am exceedingly strong in breaking down the process of solving equations and calculating other mathematical solutions in a patient step-by step approach, which my students love.

Finite Math

As a mathematics professor at a local community college, I tutored individual students in understanding concepts in the course, Finite (or Applicable) Math. I utilized the software website, MyMathLab (Pearson Publishing) to teach insurance and compound interest formulas, graphing for the boardroom and various other concepts found in the workplace and consumer economics. My "step-by-step" approach (with the help of electronic aids) was well-received and highly successful.

ADHD

ADHD

I received a Master's Degree in Special Education (Mild Disabilities) in August 2006 from Indiana University at South Bend, which included study of methods and best practices when teaching Attention Defecit Disorder children. Prior to that honor and during my study, I taught at a residential school where I worked one-on-one with numerous ages of students with ADD and ADD/HD for approximately four years. I found the most effective instruction occurred when teaching with a computerized courseware program (closed internet system) in a lab situation. I have transferred that valuable experience to my individualized tutoring style in which I have been successful in helping students focus when suffering from the intensity of a myriad of stimuli from ADD/HD.

Great Tutor - Extremely Patient

Don tutors my boys (8th grade down to Kindergarten) and has been extremely patient with all of them. Since he started he has been able to help my oldest son gain confidence in math and writing.. and he got his first "A" on a math test in over 2 years! My younger boys are continuing to grow in their math skills and he makes it fun for each of them while keeping their personalities in mind.
