Bio

Following a career as a journalist, I began teaching in 2011 and switched to subbing and tutoring in 2018. I specialize in French (all levels) and English (literature, writing, ACT/SAT/GMAT prep, and college essays), but I also enjoy editing/proofreading research papers and teaching Italian and German.

I am patient and kind, and encourage students to reach their potential. Confidence is a key to success; when students feel positive about their progress, they are more motivated to succeed....

I am patient and kind, and encourage students to reach their potential. Confidence is a key to success; when students feel positive about their progress, they are more motivated to succeed.

My college majors were Journalism, English literature and French, and I earned a Master's in Journalism from Columbia University. While in NYC I worked as a journalist (TIME Magazine), freelance writer, editor and fact-checker. I enjoy reading and discussing literature, particularly the use of literary devices. I have helped more than 80 students with college application essays and personal statements, and they all received numerous acceptances. I enjoy helping college and grad school students structure and edit extensive research papers.

I spent junior year in France at a full-immersion university. Starting in 2011, I taught seven years of high school French. More recently, I spent three months subbing for an AP/French 2 teacher and have tutored students at all levels. I keep my skills current with frequent visits to France.

As an adult, I studied Italian for seven years and also met weekly with a native speaker. I enrolled in a language and cooking class in Bologna, and return to Italy often.

While studying in France, I often visited relatives in Germany, many of whom spoke no English. This motivated me to master the language. Two years ago I subbed for a high school German teacher during her two-month leave, covering her AP German and German I classes.

Former students tell me I helped them through difficult times and motivated them towards success. I understand life's pressures, and adapt well to different learning styles and abilities. I hope to work with you or your child. - Linda

I had one session with Linda so far which went incredibly well. Despite her busy schedule, she was very accommodating and able to help me with my grad application. She was on time, to the point, patient with a great wealth of knowledge. I am so looking forward to having more sessions with her in the future. Thank you!

Excellent French Tutor

My son worked with Linda over the summer to improve his HS French skills, and to prepare him for his upcoming year. My son was very comfortable with Linda, and her teaching style; he feels like he made dramatic improvement, and feels confident going into the new school year. Linda was an excellent communicator, and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend her to others seeking a fantastic French tutor. Thank you!

Patient and experienced.

Linda has good energy and quickly spotted my weak points. I sent her an excerpt from my project and we combed over it for errors and options for improvement. She did such a great job that I've scheduled another lesson so we can progress on getting my writing to where I'd like it. Looking forward to working with her regularly.

BIG THANK YOU!

Linda is amazing, she helped my son go from a D to a B in his AP English class. She made learning fun and engaging. More importantly my son wanted to apply his new grammar knowledge. THANK YOU!

Super fast, thorough and extremely knowledgeable

Linda was so easy and pleasant to work with. I was on a time crunch and needed an extra pair of eyes to edit a fairly long paper. Within 48 hours, she put 4 hours into editing it and met with me to discuss her suggestions. The turn around time was HUGE given my time crunch. She knows her stuff, gave me big picture suggestions as well as lighted patterns in my writing that I could curb to make for a more crisp read. I would work with Linda again in a heartbeat. THANK YOU!
