About Mel

I have been teaching AutoCAD for almost thirty years. I started teaching at Illinois Technical College where I was the head of the Drafting Department. I setup and started teaching Revit at Moraine Valley Community College in 2003 and went on to develop a similar Revit program for Triton College. In 2007, I setup a credit course program at Oakton Community College in Revit and also taught AutoCAD courses. I continue to teach at a local community college to this date and I am in the process of developing a BIM-Revit certificate and associate degree program this summer to be implemented into their Engineering-CAD department program in Spring of 2014.

I have also provided training services for local Autodesk resellers and Autodesk Inc. sales staff.

My methods for training students on using Revit or AutoCAD are to use a structured tutorial courseware (i.e. Ascent Courseware) and supplement the courseware tutorials with hands on tutorials I have developed. All lessons are hands-on and I offer additional support by phone and live-webcasts between sessions.

I am a licensed architect in Illinois.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

AutoCAD

I have used and taught AutoCAD since release 2.1 and started learning on 1.4, through 2014. in 1984 I developed and taught the AutoCAD courses at Illinois Technical College. After that I taught AutoCAD at Moraine Valley Community College, Triton College and Oakton Community College, along with many private engineering and design firms throughout the Chicagoland area from 1985 to 2012.

Revit

I have used Revit Architecture on my projects since Autodesk acquired them in 2002 and taught Revit Architecture since initiating the ATC (Autodesk Training Courses) at Moraine Valley Community College from 2004 - 2012. I also set up the semester courses at Triton College in 2006 and taught them up to 2011. I currently teach Revit Architecture beginning and advanced semester courses at a local community college and am involved in development of a BIM Certificate and Associate Degree program. I also have provided private training for Architectural firms and developed and taught Revit MEP for the Chicago Mechanical Contractors Association through Moraine Valley Community College.
