Hello! My name is Ila, and I am a senior at Northwestern University studying Neuroscience and Global Health on the pre-med track. I have nearly six years of tutoring experience, primarily working with middle and high school students in math and science. Over the years, I have worked with students of different ages, learning styles, abilities, and levels of confidence, and I have found that one of the most important parts of tutoring is figuring out how each individual student learns best. Whether a student is struggling with a particular concept, preparing for an exam, or simply looking to feel more confident in a subject, I aim to create a supportive environment where they feel comfortable asking questions and working through problems without being afraid of making mistakes.
My approach to tutoring is centered on finding creative, individualized ways to make difficult concepts simpler and more understandable. If one explanation does not click with a student, I like to find a different, specialized way of approaching the material, whether that means breaking a concept into smaller pieces, using an analogy, drawing it out, connecting it to something the student already understands, or working through a problem step-by-step. I tailor my approach to each student's needs and learning style rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all method. My goal is to help students not only understand the material in front of them, but also develop strategies and confidence that they can carry with them when they encounter the next challenging concept.
