Hi, my name is Elliot! I’ve been tutoring middle and high schoolers for three years. I’m currently a rising junior at Lake Forest College, majoring in Physics and Mathematics. This past scholastic year I took Linear Algebra, Differential Equations, Calculus 3, and Analytical Mechanics (among other classes). In high school I placed in the 90th percentile for the SAT (1300) and ACT (28). I’ve been giving private tutoring lessons to middle and high school students for over three years in many subjects; Math classes from Geometry up to Calculus 2, SAT/ACT Prep, AP Physics, English/Reading, and Executive Functioning. I work one-on-one with students and connect on a more personal level, whether it’s a digital or in-person session; this helps me tailor my lessons to their needs.
I guide my students to think in ways that develop deeper, more conceptual understandings of material. This is done by breaking concepts down into simpler parts, then reassembling the pieces for a more whole and comprehensive understanding. I adjust my teaching strategies as needed for students who are confused or don’t follow. As a person with ADHD, I had to develop my own strategies and methods to succeed in high school. My goal is to be the kind of tutor that I would have needed then, and to find what works best for each individual.
