I am a senior at Northwestern University studying Biological Sciences and Global Health Studies. Through my coursework, I have developed a strong background in biology, general chemistry, organic chemistry, physics, biochemistry, and human physiology. I have also spent a lot of time preparing for the MCAT and scored well, which taught me how important it is to be organized and study material in a way that is efficient and sustainable.
I served as a Human Physiology teaching assistant at Northwestern, where I hosted office hours, answered questions, helped lead review sessions, and graded exams for a class of about 50 students. I have also tutored middle school students through Tutoring Chicago for the past year, where I prepared sessions in math, reading, and science. These experiences taught me students learn best when they feel comfortable asking questions and admitting confusion.
I believe tutoring should be collaborative and patient. I don't want a session to feel like I am just giving answers or talking at a student. I like to work through problems and content with students by asking questions ad making sure they understand the reasoning behind each step. If one explanation doesn't click, I try a different approach, whether that means drawing something out or using a different example. By the end, I'd hope the student will be able to teach the concept back to me. My goal is to help students feel less overwhelmed by science and schoolwork and more excited about learning it, while also helping them build study skills to use their time effectively and retain information.
