Hi! I’m Gabriela, a Biomedical Engineering student at Northwestern University with a minor in Computer Science. I love tutoring because I’ve seen firsthand how the right support can completely change a student’s confidence and results—especially when a class feels intimidating at first. Hi! I’m Gabriela, a Biomedical Engineering student at Northwestern University with a minor in Computer Science. I love tutoring because I’ve seen firsthand how the right support can completely change a student’s confidence and results—especially when a class feels intimidating at first. I’m naturally patient, encouraging, and very “you’ve got this” in my style, and I focus on helping students truly understand what they’re doing (not just memorize steps).
I’ve been tutoring for about five years, including tutoring at Mathnasium where I worked with students in grades K–11 across a wide range of math levels. That experience trained me to meet students where they are, explain concepts multiple ways, and keep sessions organized and productive. After that, I also did private tutoring, which helped me build a more personalized approach: I learn how each student thinks, target the exact “sticking point,” and build a clear plan so they can walk into class and tests feeling prepared.
Outside of tutoring, my engineering coursework and hands-on experiences have made me even better at breaking down complex information calmly and clearly. In sessions, you can expect a supportive, no-judgment vibe, lots of guided practice, and strategies you can reuse on your own—because my goal isn’t just to get you through tonight’s homework, it’s to help you become a more confident, independent learner. I’m happy to work with elementary through high school students, and I can also support bilingual families since I speak English and Portuguese fluently.
I know picking the right tutor can feel a little intimidating, both for students and for parents, because you want someone who’s not only knowledgeable, but also patient and supportive. My goal is to make sessions feel comfortable, encouraging, and clear from day one, so questions feel welcome and progress feels achievable. We’ll build confidence step-by-step, with a plan that fits your learning style and your goals.
