Hello! I have been teaching and tutoring science and math for fourteen years. I obtained a BS degree from Gettysburg College with a major in chemistry and a minor in biology and a PhD in organic synthesis from Northwestern University. In addition to independent tutoring, I also spent two years with the Peace Corps teaching high school chemistry and biology in Ghana and taught a general chemistry course at Northwestern University for incoming freshmen for three summers. I have been a teaching assistant for chemistry and biology classes and labs at the undergraduate level for 12 semesters throughout my undergraduate and graduate careers. I now tutor all levels of general and organic chemistry, biology up through introductory college level, and math through AP calculus.
As a teacher and tutor I always strive to meet students were there are and listen to their understanding of the material so that we can build on the foundation they already have. I love tutoring because I can tailor my teaching methods to meet the learning style of each individual student. I find the most effective methods for tutoring involve assisting students as they work through problems to help them build the skills and confidence they need to succeed in their course work.
