Hi, I'm John! I received a Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Cornell University in Materials Science and Engineering and am currently pursing a PhD at Northwestern University in the same field. Studying materials science has honed my skills in math, physics, and chemistry. I've not only taken courses in these subjects at the graduate level, but I also apply what I've learned in class to my day-to-day research. These are topics that I'm passionate about and want to help students see just how exciting they can be.

My teaching style is focused on guiding the learner to understand the correct way to approach problems. I've found that the hardest part of many problems is just figuring out where to start. Once a student is confident about the starting point, they are often able to complete the problem without much additional help. I am fortunate to have several years of experience as a teaching assistant for physics and chemistry courses at the undergraduate level, where I learned how to identify the specific needs of different students. In that time, it has become clear to me that patience is critical to determining what a student does not grasp yet and how I can best guide them to the proper understanding.

I'm looking forward to working with you and hope I can spark your interest in subjects that might seem challenging at first. Physics and math are all around us and once you begin to understand how they're present in the world, you will come to a richer view of everything you see.
