*Accepting new students for Summer 2025*

Hi, I'm Alyssa. I graduated with my Master of Sciences degree in Communication Disorders and Sciences in 2000. Two years earlier, I graduated summa cum laude with my Bachelor's degree. I hold certification to work as a speech-language pathologist in Illinois public schools.

For 18 years, I homeschooled my three children, who are now young adults. I enjoyed teaching all subjects to them in a one-on-one format, which often proves to be a fantastic way to learn. Two of my children have ADHD, and my son had visual processing difficulties. I enjoyed researching methods to help them learn and succeed. I have also taught various classes to groups of homeschooled students over the years, including essay composition classes.

With my background and training in speech and language disorders, I have a heart for children with special needs and I enjoy incorporating my expertise into tutoring sessions. I completed the Phono-Graphix Reading Therapist certification course, and I am a member of the Phono-Graphix Reading Association.

I have always enjoyed writing and I am an excellent proofreader. Because of my background in speech pathology, I am able to offer English pronunciation classes for ESL students, and I also offer general homework support sessions for students of all ages.

I enjoy tutoring in all areas in which I am qualified, including elementary reading, writing, and language arts, as well as social language skills. My passion is to help children succeed and feel confident in any learning environment.

Please feel free to contact me with questions or to schedule a session. I would love to help!

My son’s tutor

Alyssa is incredibly patient with my son and his reading. She takes the time out to slow him down when he tries to rush thru his words. He is progressing in a positive direction.

Amazing partner!

Alyssa has formed a great relationship with my daughter. After about a month break she session this week and it was as if they never had a break. Miss Alyssa remembered things about our daughter and always knows how to engage her in conversation and get her to focus on the task at hand. She is incredibly patient and works well with me to ensure the time is well spent, we truly appreciate Miss Alyssa‘s support of our daughter.
