A Few Tutor Qualifications

I have taught AP Calculus AB in high school for 6 years and have tutored a number of students on the subject. I have instructed students to scores of 5 on their tests and I look forward to helping you do the same.

Due to my theater, teaching, and theological background, I have extensive platform experience and a plethora of methods for relaxation techniques and strategies. Besides being a teacher, I have also spent time as a pastor, so the habit of preparing a 20-25 minute speech and delivering it became a part of my regular weekly routine.

The biggest difference between the ACT and SAT is time; the ACT asks students to answer more questions in less time. I can teach students how to work efficiently and in a timely manner during this exam.

Although I was born and raised in the Ukraine, I studied English for 13 years; 10 years at a private school and then another 3 years at the Pedagogical University where I earned duel degrees in History and Psychology. Additionally, I have taken and passed the Test of Spoken English required to acquire a teaching certificate in Texas. Prior to moving to the United States, I gave private lessons for persons who desired to learn the English language as well as tutored students learning English in school. Here in the United States I currently offer private tutoring in both English as a Second Language and Russian to those who desire to learn it. Because I have had to learn a second language and adapt to a new country where that language is the primary spoken language, I know how difficult it can be to learn the nuances and idioms of another language. It has been frustrating at times, and I know that each student experiences different levels of anxiety when learning. But I can tell you from experience, it is wonderful to be able to speak more than one language and something you will never regret. I am here to help and encourage you to do your best and learn English as quickly as you are able. This is why I sit with each student at the beginning of his or her lessons and discuss your goals and present knowledge. Lesson plans are then tailored to each student so as to continually evaluate your learning, target weaknesses, and to maximize the educational experience.

I have been fascinated with maps since my early childhood. A map can show many features of geography, although it is difficult to convey topography well on paper or on a 2 dimension screen. There are computer programs that can show topography very well. I would be working with students on reading and reviewing maps of the world and the US. I would be teaching about geography by using maps in some of the following ways. Maps throughout time have shown a particular cultural bias, depending on who drew the map and its purpose. Maps also help a student understand why countries act in particular ways. It is important to know how to read a map, and to understand where the physical borders separating countries are and to know where a country is in relation to other countries around it. It is also important to know what continent each country is located in. Geography can help students to understand history and politics.

As a certified Colorado secondary social studies teacher since 2001, I have helped countless students with their English skills. For the past six years, I have taught mostly 11th and 12th graders. With the emphasis on standardized tests, we would focus a lot on writing and reading skills in social studies. My wife is also a high school English teacher, so I have learned little tricks from her. I am also very familiar with the state standards and curriculum.
Darrick K.
I was employed in a Tutoring Center at the community college for four years. One of the areas in which we offered assistance was in CLAST preparation. Concurrently, I tutored students privately in CLAST preparation.
KARYN H.
I have been a child case manager for children with diagnosed mental disorders. I have a BS in psychology and have taken master level coursework in mental health counseling.
Koren O.
I can teach the Hebrew letters, vowels, and how to read Hebrew. I have taught Hebrew school for about 10 years. I have a Sunday school cerification through the Central Agency for Jewish Education that includes teaching Hebrew letters, Hebrew words and basic vocabulary.
Norma F.
I've professionally prepared taxes for at least 10 years. I became an Enrolled Agent, the highest tax preparation qualification the IRS recognizes below a tax lawyer or Tax CPA. I've dropped that designation since I'm focusing in on tutoring rather than tax preparation as a retirement career choice.
