About Grace

Hi, my name is Grace I was born and raised in La Grange. In third grade I decided to be a teacher and ever since then I have volunteered to work after school programs, and do everything I could do to reach my goal to become the best teacher I could be. I received my bachelors in Education from Holy Cross College, right across from Notre Dame (Go Irish!) I graduated in 2010 and from there I began teaching 4th grade in a parochial school on the south side of the city. After about a year of teaching I decided to go and earn my Masters degree in Reading from Olivet Nazarene University. I am currently a 4th grade teacher with the Chicago Public School.
I have always loved tutoring students in 1:1 or small group settings, my absolute favorite part about teaching is the actual teaching part, where I am able to help students find the light switch and turn it on! Tutoring helps students build a report with teachers and will help develop their learning style. I hope that I will be able to help your child become the shining star we know they all are!
Please contact me if you want to know more about me, or set up a time to meet and chat. I am extremely flexible and have reliable transportation.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Common Core

I have attended multiple professional developments in how to integrate the Common Core Standards into my lesson and how to break them down into "I Can" statements. I include the standards into my daily lesson plans at my full time teaching job. I have a Bachelor's in Education and Master's degree in Reading.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have spent 5 years teaching 4th grade, and spent 1 year as a Reading Specialist for grades K-3. I tutored a student in 6th grade in the subjects of, Reading, Math, Social Studies, and Science. I am familiar with Fountas and Pinnell, Reading A-Z, QAR, and many other interventions. I have spent a great deal of time working with students who require accommodations and modifications and was able to successfully help them better understand the material being taught.

Phonics

I have spent 5 years teaching 4th grade, and spent 1 year as a Reading Specialist for grades K-3. I tutored a student in 6th grade in the subjects of, Reading, Math, Social Studies, and Science. I am familiar with Dolch and Fry words. I was successful as a Reading Specialist to raise the reading levels of all the students I worked with.
