I've worked as a full-time, professional tutor for the last twelve years.
In the wide field of test prep, my areas of specialty include GRE, GMAT, ACT, SAT, SAT Subject Tests (literature and U.S. history), the CARS section of the MCAT, AP tests (literature, language, all histories, human geography, and government), and TOEFL. I have helped between two to three thousand students improve their scores on all of these tests.
Though I have an extensive liberal arts background, please note that I am equally adept at tutoring algebra, algebra II, geometry, and advanced forms of arithmetic. In fact, for the last seven years, a significant portion of my tutoring business has consisted of adults who need to relearn complicated math to apply to graduate programs.
Furthermore, I regularly help international executives with their adjustment to American life, providing a strong emphasis on grammar, idioms, and business English. I've also worked as an ESL instructor.
As a writer, I've published sixteen books, one of which recently reached #1 in the Amazon Kindle store for a day and a half. To other writers, I provide various services, ranging from light proofreading to heavy developmental editing to full-on ghostwriting. Recently, the Princeton Review hired me to co-write and co-edit their AP European History, AP World History, and AP Human Geography books. During the autumn, I also help anywhere from twenty to thirty high school students with college application essays.
My personal philosophy on tutors: We must tread the fine line between friend and authority. While many may find this murkiness uncomfortable, it's the perfect place for my particular skills: equal parts personality and intellect. Though it's a cliche, I really do make learning fun.
Before entering the world of education, I worked in the film industry as a professional script reader, in high-tech as a sales writer, and in journalism at The Washington Post.
I was awarded a full-tuition scholarship to The Catholic University of America, where, in a little over four years, I earned both an M.A. in rhetoric and composition and a B.A. in literature. I graduated magna cum laude and was designated a University Scholar for my excellence in the honors program.
I also spent a year studying history and literature at the unbelievably dreamy Oxford University, England. Since all of my "classes" were private tutorials with professors, I can honestly say that I've spent time on both sides of the tutoring fence. I've worked as a full-time, professional tutor for the last twelve years.

I'm happy to extend a $10/hr discount to any students willing to travel to my neighborhood. I also charge the same rate for small groups (maximum of 3) as I do for individuals.
Jason is a great tutor. He just get's it! At least with regards to what it is he specializes in.
If you're taking the GRE don't miss out on this tutor! Good luck!
Jason was extremely kind and welcoming. He was able to simplify various math problems, for me. We have a common understanding with respect to our goals. I'm very glad to be working with him!
Jason reviewed ACT practice test, corrected incorrect answers, and assessed weak areas - English, particularly grammar. Focused remainder of tutoring session addressing grammar tips to improve performance on English section of ACT.
He taught me how to tackle the ACT/SAT English and reading portions of the test using specialized information to suit my weaknesses.
My son asked me to write this review. He said Jason is the best teacher he's had in AP Euro.
Jason's mastery of the subject is evident in how well he teaches it. My son only had a few
sessions with him and yet he was very sad when he learned Jason's leaving. He refused to work
with anyone else. It's very hard to find a tutor who knows his subject inside and out and teaches it so well. His photo & profile matches the man in person. What a relief that was!
My son really enjoyed his session with Jason.
Jason taught my son special tips and rules to improve his writing. Thank you so much. We look forward to our next session with you.
Jason was very helpful with our son's SAT prep in both math, reading, writing, and overall strategies. We would definitely recommend him again. Thank you Jason!
Jason is helping my son improve his scores on the SAT. Has worked with him for 3 sessions, and he seems to work very well with students. My son is gaining confidence and motivation in working with Jason.
Jason is helping me with my travel book project for over six months. He is patient, fast, efficient, and correct all the time. Since writing a book is a big project, there are many things need to edit before it publish. I am glad I have the help form Jason, who helps me make my writing better.
I sincerely recommend him to people who need help with writing. Saying it from heart, he is the right person that will help you the most with your need.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
