About Denise

Bio

To my prospective students and parents, I'm an educator with a few college degrees in science and health science. I enjoy tutoring children K-12. For the last five years, I've been a volunteer-tutor in community organizations. I am fluent in Portuguese and Cantonese, seconded by Spanish.

My biggest accomplishment as a tutor was helping a child with ADHD to organize a given reading assignment. He maintained focused at the task. He also wanted to do more using the applied method which he liked. Learning is a self-fulfillment process. I wish for my student to feel it upon finishing their assignments.

Above and beyond

This was our first tutoring session ever for our daughter who has been struggling with her Algebra 1 grade. Denise was on time and ready to dig into the material our daughter was learning without delay. She spent additional time beyond our scheduled session to help ensure the material was well understood before leaving. The icing on the cake was Denise texting us additional material later in the evening related to the material covered. Denise went above and beyond our expectations for our first session. Looking forward to working with her again next week. :)

Our 5 year old son was enrolled in Kindergarten and needed additional tutoring in math, reading and writing. We encountered Denise's profile on WyzAnt and were immediately impressed by her consistent punctuality and her ability to effortlessly connect with our son. Our son responded well to her use of learning games, her constant encouragement, bottomless patience, and eclectic teaching materials (ie hands-on activities, work-books, use of marker boards, etc.). Helping my daughter focus!

Denise has been great with teaching my 4 year old how to read and write. She is also really teaching my daughter how to focus and concentrate. Denise has been wonderful at also teaching my daughter some simple math skills too. She is always on time and my daughter looks forward to seeing her every week!

Great tutor
