I am a 5-STAR rated full-time tutor, specializing in Writing Education, including Persuasive, Narrative, and Expository Writing. Due to my commitment to each individual student, I have never had a negative experience with a student.

I accept students of all ages, and I work with students on assignments for classes and also create assignments to capture my students' interests and capitalize on their skills. I also work with students in Editing, Reading, Study Skills, and occasionally Math through Algebra II.

I am highly flexible in meeting location, and work with both single-meeting and long-term clients.

I received my degrees in English and Education in 2009. In 2012, I took on a post in North Carolina teaching 8th Grade English Language Arts full time, where I stayed until I moved to California, and now back to Iowa! Prior to NC, I substitute taught in Iowa for everything from Kindergarten to High School Autism self-contained classes for three years, spending 3 months long-term substituting in a mixed-age transitional classroom (7-15), 3 months long-term subbing in a mixed-age high school classroom, and 4 months long-term subbing for a mixed-age middle school classroom.

I have experience in theater and music, sports, and many different educational strategies and situations. If you're struggling, I know that we can work together to find an approach to the topic that will work for you!

Great teacher; very productive

Elinor was extremely helpful in her feedback and patience to teach grammar and proper essay structure. Writing and grammar doesn’t come easy, but Elinor made it clear and and easy to understand. Highly recommend.

great longterm teacher

My daughter worked with Elinor for about a year on math. Elinor was always well prepared, energetic, and observant of my daughter’s needs. Overall, having her was a fantastic experience. I could definitely see us requesting her as a teacher again in the future.

Excellent tutor

Elinor is flexible and very helpful. She provides a feedback to whichever assignment our son has difficulty with. The lessons are not boring because she covers different aspects of English tutoring, including writing for which we actually hired her. Our son is really lucky to have her as his tutor.

Wonderful !

After trying a few different tutors through Wyzant I was feeling discouraged that I would not find the right tutor for my son. Finally I found Elinor and there was some thing about her that I knew that this would be the right fit for my son. After my son’s first session he expressed how great she was. And I finally feel at ease that my son will be getting the support that he needs

Great Teacher!

I studied with Elinor three times on my research papers, and I will definitely continue to work with her. Because she is so knowledgeable and helpful. She asks detailed questions and gives me suggestions where I struggle most. She is the best teacher I’ve ever worked with so far!!

Knowledgeable, Patient, and Helpful

We're very happy to have Elinor as our son's Writing teacher. She is very patient with my son's overall understanding of writing in general and she's fully aware of his strengths and weaknesses as a writer early on. With Elinor's continued help, we're looking forward to see our son succeed in writing. Thank you, Elinor!!

Very patient and intuitive

She was able to hone in on the writing gaps in the first lesson itself. She was very patient, positive and made some great suggestions. We have only had one lesson so far but I can see the value already.
