Bio

I taught ESL in Japan for 6 years from 1991-1997 and 12 years in Taiwan from 1999-2011. I have just recently moved to Honolulu with the aim of bringing my professional skills and attributes to Oahu. While in Japan I taught at AEON Mito Branch School prior to becoming the head of English Oral Communication at Shirakaba High School in Obihiro, Hokkaido. I taught ESL in Japan for 6 years from 1991-1997 and 12 years in Taiwan from 1999-2011. I have just recently moved to Honolulu with the aim of bringing my professional skills and attributes to Oahu. While in Japan I taught at AEON Mito Branch School prior to becoming the head of English Oral Communication at Shirakaba High School in Obihiro, Hokkaido. After a brief return to my home in the United States, I returned to ESL teaching in Asia, this time in Taiwan, by accepting a position at Lincoln American School in Hsintien. In 2001, I became head of a new ESL program at Taipei Japanese School and remained in that position through March of 2011 when my wife and I relocated to Hawaii. In my career I have taught students of all ages and levels. I am fluent in Japanese as well. I believe in active student participation with a Socratic approach with teens and adults as well as TPR (Total Physical Response) and/or MAT (Model Action Talk) methods with children. I have a B.A. in Education, and I have certification in TESOL through Global TESOL College.
