Nice to meet you, I'm Jun Ho. I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics and Computer Science from Amherst College. Over the last five years, I have tutored around 100 students, ranging from 5th grade through 12th grade, mainly in SAT preparation (both Reading/Writing and Math) as well as middle and high school math (review and quiz/test prep). I am a firm believer that every student can reach their potential, provided two factors are present: the student’s willingness to learn and the guidance and feedback of a mentor. I have helped many students accomplish their goals, and I hope to help more students here. I create personalized study plans tailored to each student’s goals, which allow them to focus fully on learning—without the burden of planning, organizing, or other administrative tasks. My biggest strength in Math Tutoring is my emphasis on conceptual understanding, which enables students to apply what they’ve learned. I encourage students to talk through their thinking out loud, since I believe that if they cannot explain a concept, they don’t truly understand it. My biggest strength in Reading/Writing Tutoring is that English is my second language—I moved from South Korea to the United States when I was 12. Through this experience, I developed the skill of parsing what I read: I don’t just read the words, but instead build the ideas behind the sentences so I can fully understand the passage. Over my SAT R/W tutoring career, I have learned that four components are essential for a high score: (1) vocabulary knowledge, (2) ability to recognize and interpret figurative language, (3) skill in rephrasing passages in your own words, and (4) grammar skills. I design study plans that target all four areas, giving students the best chance to reach their highest possible score.
