About Tracey

Bio

I find joy in helping others and bring a positive attitude to the sessions. I've been thrilled to see the students I've worked with succeed in their math classes, make high scores on SAT's or receive grades they have been striving for. It's been a privilege to work with so many wonderful students.

I will be flexible in the days we meet, the time we meet and with any factor that makes our sessions fit into your schedule.

MY BACKGROUND:

I've tutored for 30 years. I graduated magna cum laude from Georgia State University and received a degree in Actuarial Science.
I've substituted for math teachers at our local middle school and I've taught math to groups of homeschool students. I have volunteered as a math tutor at our local middle school for two years and at the local high school for one year. I enjoy helping students prepare for standardized tests such as the SAT,ACT, ASVAB and GED.

GENERAL GUIDELINES:

I tutor in my home and the parents have the choice of waiting in our den, sittine in on sessions or running errands during the sessions.

THE FIRST SESSION:
We will discuss the areas of math where there are obvious strengths and the areas that are troublesome. There is no charge for the time spent before the tutoring begins. I have found repeatedly that it helps put us all at ease to sit together and talk about goals.

I will correspond with the teacher (with your permission) to stay current with all dates of upcoming assessments and to ask the teacher's opinion of any noticeable problems in the class.
I will also provide information about additional online help, apps and printed material to reinforce topics.

AVAILABILITY:
I am generally available all days of the week. I welcome any texts or calls from the student. The student will have my email address and phone number so they can ask me questions.

I truly hope I can be of help to you. If I can't, I do hope you find the assistance you are looking for here at WyzAnt.
Sincerely, Tracey M

ACT Math

ACT Math

For 30 years, I have thoroughly enjoyed coaching high school students to improve their ACT scores, including the Math section. I use many resources including tailored note cards, practice tests, my own skills drills as well as written and verbal testing on the formulas. I use my experience as an actuary to analyze the results of the practice tests to pinpoint areas that need attention. It's an exciting role to serve as a coach because I know that outstanding ACT scores can be crucial to getting accepted into the student's preferred college.
Actuarial Science

Actuarial Science

I graduated magna cum laude from Georgia State University with a degree in actuarial science. I am an Associate of the Society of Actuaries and worked several years as a consultant in defined benefits and also for Life of Georgia.
Algebra 1

Algebra 1

I have a bachelors of business administration in actuarial science from Georgia State University. To become licensed as an Associate with the Society of Actuaries, I have passed a series of demanding exams that cover algebra principles as well as statistics and more advanced math. I've worked as a volunteer in a public middle school and high school, assisting students who are falling behind primarily in algebra 1. I have also tutored for over 30 years privately and through agencies.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

I have a bachelors of business administration in actuarial science from Georgia State University. As an Associate of the Society of Actuaries, I have passed strenuous exams on material that includes many Algebra 2 principles. I have tutored children in Algebra 2 for 30 years and served as a volunteer in a public high school working with students struggling in their classes.
ASVAB

ASVAB

As an experienced tutor to high school students, I have learned that coaching for the ASVAB requires that I have on hand resources that can be tailored to each student's needs. Through helping others prepare for this test, I have created note cards, drills on calculations by hand (because calculators are not used on this test), verbal and written formula practice and searched out online resources for quizzing. I monitor progress on practice tests and study the results to find where to focus our time leading up to the test. My work as a volunteer in the public schools has shown me the most common areas of difficulty and my experience with actuarial exams in my life has helped me develop and use testing strategies.
Elementary (K-6th)

Elementary (K-6th)

I have worked with failing students, students slightly struggling with classwork and advanced students in grades K-8. Many of the students deal with attention disorders so I engage them with learning games and activities. Most of my students continue working with me throughout high school. I've volunteered at the local middle school for 2 years to help students in need.
Elementary Math

Elementary Math

I have tutored students of all ages but find that elementary students respond to my engaging math games, guided worksheets and teamwork between the teacher, parents and myself. I have substituted and volunteered at our local middle school (2 years) and worked with students struggling with elementary standards. I have successfully homeschooled my own three children through the elementary years and tutored other homeschooled students especially with test anxiety and test performance.
GED

GED

I have received a college education which covers all material on the GED. I have learned and taught (privately) test taking skills in actuarial exams, SAT, ACT, GED, ASVAB and with college courses in math and statistics. I have tutored for 33 years and substituted in middle school (english, science and math) and in high school (math) briefly and volunteered in both for 1-2 years. I have educated my own 3 children which covered all GED material and who went on to receive college degrees with honors, as well as taught other homeschooled students.
Geometry

Geometry

Geometry is a subject I often tutor. I have invested in visual aids for the students that are key to understanding the material. I've tutored this for 35+ years and worked in the public schools as a volunteer and substitute. I've also taught homeschool students in a group setting.
Linear Algebra

Linear Algebra

In 1984, I began my freshman year at Georgia State University and took a one quarter class in College Algebra. The class began with a review of linear algebra. I actively participated in the discussions, attended all classes and I received an 'A' in this course.
SAT Math

SAT Math

As an actuary, I have thorougly mastered test-taking for the actuarial exams which has enabled me to pass on these skills to students I tutor. I work daily with students who study algebra, geometry, algebra 2 and trig which are covered on the math section of the SAT. I believe in providing the student with any and all resources which they responded to specifically - written material, study guides, note cards, websites, videos, visual aids, and taught lessons for auditory learners.

Patient and Welcoming ASVAB Tutor

The lessons were really helpful and much needed. She knew exactly how to help me and she was very patient with everything. Especially since I am a slow learner. She's very nice and welcoming. She also gives you stuff to work on at home. With that and her tutoring, I feel ready to take the ASVAB. So glad I chose her.
