My American English tutoring practice provides personalized one-to-one communications learning for high-intermediate and advanced-level ESL adults. I tutor ESL Speaking, Listening, Writing, Reading, and Grammar online using Skype's well-known screen sharing capabilities. My highly motivated clients include international working professionals and their spouses, as well as many graduate-level scholars desiring private American English communications development.
To tailor meaningful ESL lessons, I reference my 10-years of one-to-one professional American teaching experience, Kennesaw State University TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) Certification training, and the scholarly American English textbooks I use to scaffold my lessons.
I am currently tutoring or mentoring international ESL clients from Brazil, Canada, China, Hawaii, Germany, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Nepal, Peru, the Philippines, Russia, Spain, Switzerland, Taiwan, and Vietnam. I tutor my ESL clients respectfully and mentor their American English language development for life.
Unlike the typical ESL classroom lectures offered by others, my private ESL lessons are customized American English communications enhancement experiences that proceed at each client's pace. With my positive reinforcement, clients learn to clearly enunciate polite American English phrases that often include conversational phrasal verbs and the idiomatic business expressions used by well-educated North Americans. Throughout my lessons, mispronunciations are politely corrected and subsequently revisited until clients have internalized my respectful reminders.
Generally speaking, each ESL lesson plan begins with a respectful American English conversation to practice difficult pronunciation challenges in a safe online classroom environment. I may invite the deliberate use of a collocated vocabulary or call for five sentences including contractions.
Next, I ask each client to read aloud from their Past Mispronunciation's List to confirm the efficacy of my corrections. Finally, each client's lesson plan focuses on their own personal English communications Speaking, Listening, Writing, and Reading challenges. Impromptu American English public speaking, phrasal verb comprehension, native accent English reduction, vowel sound differentiation, academic writing, confident presentation delivery, business English expressions, and well-educated vocabulary are among the most popular options available. Appropriate textbook reading, exercises, lesson handouts, and online listening resources are introduced during class to enhance between-lesson learning opportunities.
My ESL tutoring specialties include the modeling, articulation, and pronunciation of the standard non-regional American English pronunciation and polite speech practices associated with well-educated North Americans. My upper-intermediate and advanced level American English lessons emphasize the multiple-word thought groups, best known as collocations, that North Americans are most comfortable with. I often collaborate with clients to script, proofread, and evaluate the American English oral and written presentations required of them. Astute international graduate school professors and business executives routinely use my private oral English editing services to edit, proofread, and perfect and their oral presentations.

Popular lesson topics include, but are not limited to:
1. American English Pronunciation
2. Business English Expressions
3. Conversational Phrasal Verbs
4. Business English Vocabulary
5. Fundamental English Grammar
6. Presentations in English
7. Native Accent Reduction
8. Prepositions In Use

Are you planning a business trip? Let's collaborate to predict and list the questions you are likely to be asked before practicing your best American English responses. Similarly, we can practice effective telephone English dialogues until you are confident when making and taking phone calls. When I confirm your proofreading, editing, and listen while you practice delivering your PowerPoint presentations, you can expect your public speaking fears to disappear.

Invitation: Many of the long-term ESL scholars that I assist report huge improvements in their American English abilities after meeting with me regularly for as little as three months. My clients often validate my respectful dedication to their English communication goals with the excellent reviews and high lesson-ratings posted on my profile. I am justifiably proud of their accomplishments and grateful for the trust and confidence they hold in my teaching abilities. I invite you to contact me to discuss your American English learning objectives and to schedule future online lessons.

Just in time for my junior high school education, I had the good fortune to join the rest of my family moving to Asia for two-years when my father's employer transferred him to Bangkok, Thailand. I quickly discovered that I could exchange informal American English language and culture lessons for their Thai language and culture equivalents. Similarly, as an adult working for the U.S. government in both Germany and Japan, I volunteered to tutor ESL American English to motivated International ESL/ESOL adults in exchange for their local language and cultural experiences. Since settling in Georgia's Greater Atlanta area in 2008, I have tutored American English subjects of every description, full time. To update my American English and Grammar Teaching qualifications, I completed the required coursework to earn my TESOL (Teacher of English to Speakers of Other Languages) and Teaching Grammar Classroom and Online Certifications from Kennesaw State University in 2013. Accordingly, I currently tutor advanced American English Speaking, Listening, Reading, and Writing to a loyal following of international working professionals, college graduate-school scholars, and their spouses. Grammar

I thoroughly enjoy teaching American English Grammar to interested adult ESL clients. Accordingly, I completed university coursework entitled "Teaching English Grammar" in 2013. Along with a thorough college-level review of American English grammar, this ESL teacher's course introduced me to the latest research regarding ESL Grammar instruction. In the process, I was introduced to the comprehensive set of ESL Grammar texts, workbooks, and interactive PowerPoint graphics that I still use in my upper-intermediate and advanced-level lessons. In particular, I emphasize the importance of proper word order and the demands of subject-verb agreement in English communications. Likewise, I highlight the prescribed use and conjugation of college-level action verbs in English speaking and writing. To better comprehend and speak English like a true native speaker, the appropriate conversational contractions must be reviewed and their pronunciation practiced. Likewise, count and noncount noun distinctions must become second nature along with the appropriate articles they require. These are frequently in need of additional attention and practice. Moreover, I include a thorough review of the causal, temporal, and comparative connectives available for scholastic writing at all levels. (Updated February 2018)

Speech

Speech

I provide the American English speech evaluations with respectful suggestions that international working professionals require when preparing their verbal presentations. I also assist my clients to clearly articulate the polite American accent English intonation that they require to express themselves clearly. Additionally, I collaborate with clients to optimize their verbal presentations through the expressive use of syllable stress, vocal pacing, and phasal emphasis. My goal is to guide my ESL clients toward increasingly clear, fluent, and coherent discourse. I am often called upon to assist ESL clients with their pronunciation, vocabulary, and accent challenges. Toward that end, I routinely model the standard non-regional American accent English generally associated with well-educated North Americans. When engaged in Speech lessons, I carefully enunciate my words and deliberately emphasize the American English intonation and syllable stress that does not require undue listener effort. My ESL clients report increased confidence in their verbal presentations, successful interview outcomes, and superior job evaluations. Also, clients praise my efforts in the positive tutor reviews and high lesson ratings they award me. They credit me with their successful job interviews and subsequent promotions. In turn, I never forget to attribute my client's hard work and dedication to learning for the successes they enjoy. Thank you for considering my ESL tutoring services. (Updated November 2015)

Excellent tutor!

I started to hire a tutor because I felt I have little chance to speak English even though I am doing my graduate program. When I talk with my classmates, the conversation is either not a good practice because my classmates do not correct me if I misspeak. Then I found Nathan. He provides a lot of great suggestions for my spoken English, especially in the following aspects. **Choice of words- As an ESL speaker, I sometimes use impolite or awkward words I am not aware of. Nathan is a sensitive listener. He corrects me and gives appropriate suggestions of choosing words. **Fluency of sentences- Nathan always listens to me carefully. He will point out what I miss in a sentence and encourages me to practice the complete sentence again. **Perfect example of English speaker- Nathan's accent is the so-called standard American English accent. He always speaks as a gentleman and teaches me to speak in a polite manner. He also speaks in a well-organized way that I can understand everything he tells me. **Selection of materials- the materials that Nathan selects are very helpful and interesting. For example, the book of phrasal verbs provides daily-life verbs and good exercises. The podcast is a wonderful practice of listening and speaking. Nathan is always well-prepared before we meet. We have a schedule for every class and he never rushes to finish the class just because the time is up. Overall, he is definitely an excellent tutor and I will keep learning English with him!

Patient tutor

He corrected my pronunciation and taught me the contractions to speak the same as a native American, but I still have a lot to improve. Way to go. Will definitely have next lesson with him.
