Hello! My name is Ryan, and I am currently pursuing a B.F.A. in Visual Effects and Technical Direction at the Savannah College of Art and Design. As a current student, I know how important an engaging tutor really is!

In addition to furthering my own education, I have been a freelance designer and photographer for over 6 years! My skillset primarily lies in the Adobe Creative Cloud Suite with a focus on motion graphics, visual effects, and photo editing. I also have experience with print layout and logo design as well. I use Photoshop, After Effects, Illustrator, InDesign, Media Encoder, and Premier Pro on a daily basis.

Furthermore, I have experience with 3D animation and rendering in Autodesk Maya and Houdini. I also have a background compositing in NukeX as well.

As a part of my lessons, I choose to cover the basics of good design as well as the technical aspects of the software. It is important to incorporate elements such as composition, balance and movement into your toolkit so that you can utilize your software skills to their full potential!

I have been a professional photographer for weddings, family photos, and aspiring social media influencers. I have focused mostly on the post-shoot process including clean-up, color correction, compositing and occasionally typography.

As for graphic design, I have mostly been a freelancer for logo and brand design. Additionally, for the past 5 years, I have worked for local churches looking to incorporate motion graphics and video production into their weekly services.

I believe art and design is constantly evolving, and as artists we need to embrace that change. It can be difficult to keep up with the latest technology and software, but together we can refine your digital design skillset according to your individual goals!

Photography,

Photography

I have shot for weddings, family photos, and aspiring social media influencers. I often choose to shoot in natural light rather than a studio atmosphere, despite the additional challenges of balancing shutter speed, ISO, and aperture size to prefect image exposure. Occasionally, I will use a shoe-mount flash, or a reflector to even out skin tones for portraits. When shooting landscapes however, I tend to use a tripod and neutral density filter on a wider angle lens (14-35mm). I only shoot in RAW 16 bit image formats to maximize editing freedom in post. My primary interest lies in editing photos in Lightroom or Photoshop. This may include color correction in Adobe Camera Raw, or composting and clean up (such as frequency separation) within the main software. As a result of shooting in natural light, shadows and highlights are often inconsistent, and must be fixed in post using advanced editing techniques as well.
Video Production,

Video Production

Video production is an essential part of the VFX pipeline. I have had 2 years of experience as a visual effects supervisor on set, and over 5 years of experience editing and shooting video myself. My expertise lies in Adobe Premier Pro and After Effects, although I have some compositing experience with The Foundry's NukeX as well. I currently composite 3D assets and renders into live action footage using these programs. From pre-production to post-production, I have experience shooting, lighting (both on-set and re-lighting using camera tracking and geometry projection in post), importing, editing, and exporting movies and short film projects.

Animation

I have had 5+ years of animation experience using Adobe After Effects, creating motion graphics and lyric videos primarily for local church services. I have also completed some freelance logo animations for startup companies as well. Additionally, I have worked on numerous 3D animation projects using Autodesk Maya, including a student produced Dunkin Donuts commercial. Some of these projects required character rigging, parenting, and all of them required keyframe graph editor manipulation. I am mostly skilled at keyframe animation, all though I am proficient in stop motion and frame-by-frame animation.

Great instructor!

I had a pretty complex (in my opinion) problem making an enormous project. I’m a very basic photoshop user but Ryan sorted it out within the time we had! Easy to follow along with and clearly knew what he was doing!

Amazing.10/10 Best tutoring experience I have had.

He was knowledgeable about the software, patient and knew how to teach. He showed me how to do everything on his screen, then walked me through doing it on mine. It was really fun. I can't wait for the next lesson.
