About Major

I first began tutoring in high school for a program at my church. I enjoyed helping others solve problems and develop techniques to remember concepts or turn hard problems into easy problems. I believe that repetition and learning concepts is the key to learning any subject. That is my teaching strategy. I help my student understand why each step is needed. I love math and I have used it substantially in my undergraduate studies for my Electrical Engineering degree. I have led many study sessions in college. As an Officer in the Navy I was responsible for the training of my subordinates.

I aspire to one day become a certified teacher or a college professor. I am going to school online for a Masters Degree in Education. I personally enjoy teaching and passing on the knowledge that I have obtained. Although math is my specialty I am available for a variety of subjects. I look forward to working with all who seek knowledge.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

ACT Math is a 60 question 60 minute test. It has pre-algebra, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and data analysis. I can help assist with all concepts tested and even techniques to eliminate wrong answers.

Algebra 1

Throughout my studies I have taken and tutored algebra 1, algebra 2, pre-calculus, and calculus. I received an A in each class.

Algebra 1 is the introduction to working with quantities that can vary or are unknown. In this area of study we learn to manipulate variables and algebraic expressions. I can help make any concept or process associated with algebra 1 easier to understand.

Algebra 2

Throughout my studies I have taken and tutored algebra 1, algebra 2, pre-calculus, and calculus. I received an A in each class.

Algebra 2 contains more advanced concepts of algebra. I can help make any concept or process associated with algebra 2 easier to understand.

ASVAB

Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery is a series of questions designed to determine the skill set and potential ability of performance in certain military jobs. As a previous Naval Officer I have had the opportunity to help other individuals achieve scores for entry into service as well as the scores they needed to qualify for the job they wanted.

Chess

I have been playing chess for 16 years. I was a member of the Georgia Tech chess team in 2008-2009 where we won the Georgia Collegiate Chess Tournament. I love chess and I love to teach it.

Differential Equations

I took a Differential Equations class in college and received an A. Differential equations that have derivatives in them and our goal is to find the original function. We need to understand the calculus concept of integration in order to accurately solve a differential equation. First, the student must be able to understand what type of differential equation it is because each type requires different methods to solve it. I help the student understand the different types of differential equations and the methods we can use to solve them.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have been tutoring K-6th students for over 2 years. I am patient and I use games and interactive techniques to make learning fun as well as effective. In K-6th, students are still learning the fundamentals which is key to understanding future concepts, so I believe that this is an extremely important time in their education.

Geometry

Geometry covers a wealth of topics relating to algebra, logic, and spatial understanding. I can help make any concept in Geometry easier to understand.

SAT Math

SAT Math consists of 54 questions in 3 sections. Test questions cover the application of basic math concepts, algebra, geometry, and data analysis. I can make sure you know, understand, and can apply every math concept tested by the SAT. I can also show you tips to solve the problems faster and to eliminate wrong answers.

Study Skills

Studying is an important part of the learning process. I have been helping others study/understand information better for over 10 years. It is not enough to just get the information. I have taken courses for a Master's in Education in which I learned about the different ways people learn and I use that information to help others process and absorb information at a faster and more efficient rate than they were before.
