About Matthew

Bio

Hi, I’m Matthew. I help students raise their math and science skills to the next level.

I started teaching Physics at Towson University after I got my PhD, explaining mechanics, electricity, magnetism, and optics in ways that connect to students’ real-world experience. I’ve taught students how to use arithmetic, algebra, and calculus equations, and how to handle multimeters and logic circuits.

I’ve also tutored students 1-on-1 for over a decade, both in person and online, from middle school to high school and college, covering geometry, trigonometry, statistics, and other topics. I’ve learned to adapt my methods to the student’s pace and needs. If you need a refresher, we can do that. If you’re totally lost, I can help there too, enabling you to steadily build understanding and mastery of topics that sometimes seem impossible, in ways that are manageable and maybe even fun.

I’ve worked with students from diverse cultures, and students with special needs. I’m glad to put together a plan that puts your specific goals front-and-center, to help you achieve success.

Contact me, and we can tackle any academic mountains you're facing, one step at a time.

Approved Subjects

Calculus

Calculus

I have experience tutoring students in calculus, and teaching physics with calculus at a college level. Over time, I've come up with some good analogies, real world examples, and teaching methods that I have found can help when students need to tackle challenging and difficult calculus concepts. I've also used integral calculus as a professional engineer to calculate stress intensity factors for structures with cracks, and to determine heat flows in complex systems.
Physical Science

Physical Science

I taught physical science for several years at Towson University, working with fellow faculty to come up with examples and demonstrations that help explain complex physical science concepts to students. I've also tutored individual students in physical science, customizing lessons to fit their experience and needs.
Physics

Physics

After getting my PhD in engineering, I taught freshman and sophomore physics for several years at Towson University. I've also tutored high school and college students in physics, including mechanics, electromagnetics, heat transfer, and optics. As a tutor, I customize lessons to match student knowledge and speed, helping them build confidence as they achieve mastery of the material.
Precalculus

Precalculus

I've tutored individual students in precalculus online and in-person, customizing lessons to fit student knowledge and needs. I've also taught students to apply precalculus to solve real-world physics problems, and used precalculus in my own engineering work.
Trigonometry

Trigonometry

I've tutored individual students in trigonometry online and in-person, customizing lessons to fit student knowledge and needs. I've also taught students to apply trigonometry to solve real-world physics problems, and I regularly use it in my own work.
