My name is Andrew. I graduated from Notre Dame Magna Cum Laude with a Degree in math in 2008, then went on to get a Ph.D. in math from Columbia University in 2013. I taught for 1 year at Morehouse College and ever since then I have been teaching at Georgia State University for around 10 years. I have taught all levels of calculus/precalculus several times each and I am extremely familiar with BOTH these subject materials AND how students react/struggle to this material. I have always enjoyed and excelled at math and I have lots of experience in teaching.

As a tutor, it is important to not only understand the material, but also to understand common areas where students struggle. Since I have taught all levels of calculus and precalculus several times each, I have a very deep and keen understanding of common mistakes, difficult concepts, and other ways that students often struggle. By being able to identify in advance potential problem topics, I am able to direct the tutoring sessions toward the areas that need the most focus, even if the student themself doesn't fully know what they're confused about.

As a tutor, my top priority is the knowledge of the student. It's not about showing you how to do a problem, it's about you learning how to do it yourself. I always make sure that the students I'm teaching understand not just the answer, but the whole process, focusing on each step and emphasizing WHY that step is happening. By focusing on concepts and learning instead of answers, students will better able to learn patterns and remember how to do these problems when they seem them outside of tutoring.

Nothing is more important to me than the success and understanding of the students I teach. I take tutoring as seriously as any college course I've taught and all my students will receive high quality tutoring from someone with 10+ years of college level teaching experience and a great passion for teaching. Please feel free to reach out anytime either with questions or to schedule a lesson.
