Qualifications for “SAT math”

I have been tutoring all sections of the SAT including Math since I was in Graduate School in Engineering in the early 70's. I am also Certified in High School Math in five counties in Georgia. The method that I use for tutoring Math for the SAT is very straightforward, I administer a full Diagnostic SAT Math Exam to the student and then I review every question that they got incorrectly, then I design a lesson plan to address these errors as well as cover all additional substantive material. I have two doctorates, one from Ga. Tech in Industrial Engineering and one from Harvard University in Special Education. Since I retired in 2007, I have tutored hundreds of students on the SAT.

On another note, one of my strongest attributes is that I have an infinite amount of empathy, "patience", and determination with my students. I will not give up on a trying student. I may not be the least expensive tutor out there; however, I can assure you that I have many more years experience than your average tutor. I am semi-retired and tutor because I love teaching.

I also scored a 1600 out of 1600 on the SAT and 36 out of 36 on the ACT when I took the exams years ago.

Please also see my five-star ratings and testimonials from students and parents on my SAT/ACT tutoring effectiveness. I have a 4.98 star rating out of 5.00 stars.

On another note, with respect to the testimonial, I worked with one student for ten sessions and was able to increase his SAT English score by 220 points, his Critical Reading score by 270 points, and his Math score by 210 points to a total of 2110/2400.

With respect to the SAT and ACT, the exam is sixty to seventy percent knowledge based and thirty to forty percent depends on understanding exactly what and how the test makers have designed the test and tricks to solving problems on the exam.

I had an ACT student who on the last exam increased her score from a 15 to a 32 with eleven sessions. Now in all fairness she worked very very hard with me and between sessions on her vocabulary, math, etc.

I have been also been Certified by the Gwinnett, Fulton, Forsyth, Dekalb, and Cobb County Boards of Education as a Certified Tutor, and I have lived in the Alpharetta/Johns Creek area for over thirty years.

I look forward to helping your child get in the college of his choice!

I am a retired professor from the Georgia Institute of Technology, with PhD's in Industrial Engineering and Special Education. I have more than thirty-five years of experience tutoring and teaching core academic subjects including ACT and SAT Preparation, Special Needs, including issues like Dyslexia (reading disorders), Dysgraphia (writing disorders), Dyscalculia (math disorders), and most other learning and memory processing disorders.

Recent research at MIT has shown that one-on-one tutoring is 500% more effective than group tutoring due to the ability to focus on the individual students strengths and weaknesses directly without the constant interruption of the class room environment.

After a series of diagnostic assessments, I tailor each subject to the specific needs and requirements of my students, based upon their individual backgrounds and aspirations. If you have any questions about my experience and methodology, please feel free to contact me. I look forward to working with you in the future.

Phonics,

Phonics

I have tutored and taught phonics, reading, English, grammar, and writing for over twenty-five years with excellent results. Phonics is an integral tool in teaching the English language. I have taught phonics to grammar school students, high school students, college students, and students learning English as a second language. I have taught phonics in private grammar and high schools, college level courses, adult education courses and seminars. I have taught English and phonics for Literacy Action in Atlanta, Georgia and Literacy Forsyth in Cumming, Georgia. Phonics is a method for teaching reading and writing the English language by developing learners' phonemic awareness—the ability to hear, identify, and manipulate phonemes—in order to teach the correspondence between these sounds and the spelling patterns (graphemes) that represent them. I am certified in Orton-Gillingham, Wilson Reading, and other interactive teaching technologies. The goal of phonics is to enable beginning readers to decode new written words by sounding them out, or in phonics terms, blending the sound-spelling patterns. Since it focuses on the spoken and written units within words, phonics is a sublexical approach and, as a result, is often contrasted with whole language, a word-level-up philosophy for teaching reading. Since the turn of the 20th century phonics has been widely used in primary education and in teaching literacy throughout the English-speaking world. If you have any questions about my teaching methods, etc., please email me. I received my Doctorate from Harvard University in Special Education, specializing in reading and writing issues and disorders.

Without assistance, your average student will not be able to succeed to their greatest potential. I am also Certified in Orton Gillingham and Wilson Reading Systems together with the other multi-sensory methods including the Interactive Reading System. Types of learning disabilities taught include: reading disability (dyslexia), mathematics disability (dyscalculia) and writing disability (dysgraphia); I have tutored students and adults with the following pre-diagnosed disorders: mild Asperger’s Syndrome, ADD/ADHD, mild Autism, Bipolar Disorder (manic-depression), varied Cognitive Disorders, Communication and Speech Disorders, Obsessive Compulsion Disorder (OCD), Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD), Malingering, and Impulse Control Disorder (ICD). I have tutored from four to sixty years old.
Phonics,

Special Needs,

Special Needs

I have been interested in and taught and tutored young students and adults with "Special Needs" for over thirty-five years with good success. I have tutored the following pre-diagnosed disorders: mild Asperger’s Syndrome, ADD/ADHD, mild Autism, Bipolar Disorder (manic-depression), varied Cognitive Disorders, Communication and Speech Disorders, Obsessive Compulsion Disorder (OCD), Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD), Malingering, and Impulse Control Disorder (ICD). I am also qualified in Reading and Writing Disorders: these disabilities include: reading disability (dyslexia), mathematics disability (dyscalculia) and writing disability (dysgraphia);I am Certified in Orton Gillingham and the Wilson Reading System, multi-sensory methods. My educational experience includes post graduate work at The University of Miami and Harvard University where I have lectured on "Special Needs Education and the Fight for Federal Funding". I have an infinite amount of patience, empathy, and I will not quit with a trying student with caring parents!
Speech

Speech

I am currently qualified in over fifteen subjects with WyzAnt. I have a B.S., M.B.A., and a Juris Doctorate in Law. When I first started to speak as a child, and throughout grammar school, I suffered from stuttering and other speech related issues. Determined to overcome my affliction, I went on to become our school's Debate Club President and win the State of Georgia High School Championship, and later I debated for our team at Georgia Tech. With the proper guidance and assistance, I went on to give the Graduation Speech in my high school and ultimately on to practice as a trial lawyer who taught continuing education courses to younger lawyers on how to conduct oral arguments in court. I have worked directly for a licensed speech therapist here in the Atlanta area for over fifteen years. I have done volunteer work for Literacy Action in Atlanta, Georgia, and Literacy Forsyth in Cumming, Georgia, for over thirty years. Speech therapy focuses on receptive language, or the ability to understand words spoken to you, and expressive language, or the ability to use words to express yourself. It also deals with the mechanics of producing words, such as articulation, pitch, fluency, and volume. Adults may need speech therapy after a stroke or traumatic accident that changes their ability to use language; for children, it generally involves pursuing milestones that have been delayed. Some children only need help with language, others have the most problems with the mechanics of speech, and some need every kind of speech help there is available. Over the years, I have tutored students who have gone on to become debate champions, students recovering from neurological issues, trial lawyers, and business professionals who need assistance in their job performance where oral presentations are necessary, etc. I enjoy this work because it is very rewarding to both the student and the teacher. If you have any questions about my approach and methods, please feel free to email me at any time.

I also suffer from dyslexia, which was diagnosed when I was in the first grade. I have obviously been able to overcome this disability and I feel that I am uniquely qualified to assist other students with this affliction. This condition never goes away completely; however, it can be managed with the right training and assistance. SAT Math,

SAT Math

Now in all fairness she worked very very hard with me and between sessions on her vocabulary, math, etc

AWESOME!!!!! The Best

We just received our son's SAT scores and after working with G.W. his total score went up 280 points!!!!! My son improved in all three areas. This improvement increased his academic scholarship over two fold. We want to thank G.W. for all his hard work in helping our son. If you need a great tutor I would not hesitate to recommend G.W. to any family/student looking for help.

Incredibly great session....

We’ve only had one so far, but it is always a good thing when my son leaves the session saying he is ready for another! That NEVER happens especially when you are taking a Friday night from a high school senior!

Knowledgeable and patient coach & tutor

My son has challenges with dysgraphia and dyslexia--22 years of age, lots of water under this bridge. Doc's patient and supportive. My son, Matt, is committed to improve as he is very bright and aware of his disabilities.

Highly recommended!

My son has ADHD and although bright, he struggles in school and has a subpar GPA. His score on the ACT is paramount. GW has been working with him for 4 hours most Saturdays for a while. My son has to drive an hour to get there, leaving at 7AM every Saturday. This may not sound like a big deal, but believe me, for my son to remain dedicated to attending these sessions, it is a testimony to how much he loves working with GW. We don't have his scores back yet but regardless, I have no doubt that he has done his best and that his score will reflect his abilities. What more could you ask for? Sessions with GW have not only improved his confidence but I believe his overall attitude towards his education has improved significantly. Its expensive, but the effect is priceless!

Fantastic tutor

Dr. G. helped my son prepare for the ACT. He was always prepared, attentive, punctual and patient working with my son. He also was very responsive whenever I had a question. Most importantly, he helped my son with timing and how to approach the questions. I would highly recommend Dr. G.
