Bio

I have a vast background in math and physics. I have taken what is often considered to be the hardest course in physics (quantum field theory) and I received an A in both semesters. For now, the only philosophy classes I will tutor are logic classes (possibly philosophy of science). I won an award (Robert Long Prize) for a philosophy of physics paper that was largely logic-based.

I started tutoring 20 years ago. I tutor math, physics, and logic. Education is extremely important to me. This is a huge part of why I am pursuing studies of applications of category theory (particularly the teachings of Professor Baez, and more particularly his teachings about teaching, and even more particularly in reference to how category theory can help). This also played an important role in my choosing to fly out to Caltech last summer and work with Professor Marcolli. I believe our education system is overdue for some serious updates. People are starting to teach calculus to random low-income neighborhood grade school children. Areas of mathematics and physics that are currently spoken of as the most difficult to grasp, I am quite sure are being inadvertently and unnecessarily being made and/or mistaken as inaccessible, and one of my top missions in life is to help correct this. I hope this makes clear both how dedicated and confident I am in this regard.

I offer many strategies and many resources, and I make sure we are pursuing whichever the student thinks are best, and I make sure my input is understood as suggestions (communication is key). I ask to make sure at each step that we are on the same page. I am time efficient with respect to whatever the student's short term and long terms goals are. I have taken multiple graduate level courses and audited many more. I have earned only A's in them. I have been pursuing research (multiple projects that I have received funding for from highly competitive research programs, one at NASA, one at the Biophysical Society at UNC-Chapel Hill, two at the Universi

ACT Science

ACT Science

I received an almost perfect score myself. I have been tutoring ACT Science for years. I have also tutored many different science classes for many years as well. I have a degree in physics cum laude. I have worked in research in wide range of fields of study in science research. I am currently pursuing a masters degree in data science. So, altogether (and even individually) from all of this, I have seen the types of questions that you see on ACT Science countless times.
Algebra 1

Algebra 1

I have two bachelor's degrees, one in math and one in physics (physics problems cannot be done without complete understanding of high school algebra is almost entirely based on calculus). I have tutored college and high school algebra as well as many classes that build on it for almost 20 years. My current mathematical physics research is based on unifying general relativity and quantum physics (and therefore endless algebra).
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

I have two bachelor's degrees, one in math and one in physics. Most physics courses cannot be complete without a thorough understanding of algebra. I have tutored college and high school algebra (as well as many classes that build on it) for almost 20 years. I earned A's in all of my algebra 2 courses. I earned a 3.8 (out of 4.0) GPA for my bachelor's.
Calculus

Calculus

I've been doing/teaching calculus for 20 years. I have a bachelors in math. I have another in physics, and all physics classes are almost entirely calculus-based. I took fourth place at the 2016 University of Florida integration bee. I scored a 5 in Calculus AP.
Data Science

Data Science

I took machine learning classes at Berkeley (theory and application). I have worked on a variety of both classic and new data science methods in research projects and industry jobs. For instance, during my time at NASA, I worked on data science research projects wherein I used different forms of machine learning such as clustering, nonlinear regression, regression tree, random forest, and time series analysis and forecasting. Also, I'm well-versed in the main three languages (and packages relevant to data science) used in data science: Python, R, and SQL.
Differential Equations

Differential Equations

I received an A in differential equations. I have two bachelors degrees, one in math and one in physics (upper levels physics is almost entirely based on differential equations). I have tutored differential equations as well as many classes that build on it for almost 20 years. My mathematical physics research is based on high level differential equations.
Discrete Math

Discrete Math

I have taken and tutored many classes in math and physics that discrete math is prerequisite for as well as multiple full classes in discrete math. For example: number theory, graduate numerical linear algebra, graduate numerical optimization, graduate mathematical physics, graduate quantum field theory. All of the research projects I have worked over the years are in discrete mathematics: quantum computing, computational particle physics, computational molecular dynamics, symbolic logic, time series analysis and forecasting
Elementary Math

Elementary Math

I graduated with honors in mathematics (and physics) from the University of Florida ("Ivy League of the south"). I have been tutoring elementary math for about 20 years. I use active learning methods, and I accommodate different learning styles. I am very patient, and I work to build the student's confidence in mathematical capability.
Geometry

Geometry

I graduated with honors in mathematics (and physics) from the University of Florida ("Ivy League of the south"), and when I am not tutoring, I am working on research I began through a research program at Caltech on noncommutative geometry. I have been tutoring geometry for about 20 years. I use active learning methods, and I accommodate different learning styles. I am quite patient, and I focus on build the student's confidence in mathematical capability, including Geometry.
Linear Algebra

Linear Algebra

I have taken and tutored linear algebra at undergraduate and graduate levels as well as many classes in math and physics that heavily use advanced linear algebra: abstract algebra, graduate numerical linear algebra, graduate numerical optimization, graduate mathematical physics, quantum mechanics, graduate quantum field theory. The research projects I am working on are well above the level of linear algebra and use it heavily.
Logic

Logic

I have taken and tutored mathematical logic, philosophical logic, symbolic logic, and programming logic as well as many classes that they are prerequisite classes for. For example, I have taken linear algebra, abstract algebra, advanced calculus, number theory, graduate numerical linear algebra, graduate mathematical physics, graduate complex analysis, philosophy of spacetime. The research projects I am working on are well above the level of undergraduate logic of the aforementioned types. I won the Robert Long Prize for a logic paper I wrote.
Physics

Physics

I have two bachelors degrees, one in math and one in physics. I have tutored a variety of physics classes (undergraduate and graduate) for 10+ years. My current mathematical physics research is based on the unification of quantum physics with general relativity.
SAT Math

SAT Math

I have been tutoring and teaching SAT prep courses for almost 20 years. I recently scored a near perfect score on the GRE Subject Test in Mathematics, which is many times harder than the SAT (and any other standardized test for that matter). Students consistently raise their math score by at least a hundred points within a few weeks. I also have a degree in math and conduct research in math at prestigious institutions, e.g. NASA, Caltech, Biophysical Society.
Trigonometry

Trigonometry

I won awards for trigonometry at math competitions in high school, and I've been tutoring it ever since. I also know a bunch of tricks to remember everything that they don't teach in school. I've worked for many tutoring companies. And, I used it all the time in higher level math (e.g. calculus, Fourier analysis, complex analysis, etc.) for my research and data science work.

Knowledgeable and Patient Tutor

Joe knows his stuff. This was my son's first lesson, and he said that Joe helped him a lot in his AP Physics C class. He was able to explain concisely so that my son could understand, and he made Physics simpler than his school teacher. We will definitely continue lessons with him and highly recommend him as a tutor.
