As the summer winds down, many parents are looking for ways to prepare their student to be ready day one when school starts with some difficult subjects. If you feel you or your student needs some extra preparation time, tutoring could be the answer.
Tutoring has been my passion and drive for more than 12 years now. I love seeing the faces of my students when they 'get' a difficult concept or math problem. I have had amazing success in tutoring students up through college in Math, Algebra I and II, geometry, statistics, chemistry, physics, and French.
I was a pre-vet major and took many math courses including Engineering Calculus 2 and science such as Biology, Physics, and Chemistry. I am Phi Beta Kappa and have three full BAs and have been inducted into the French Honor Society. I am fluent in French and lived in Paris working as a bilingual secretary for a large corporate firm.
Most of my tutoring has been in math where I approach it as a way to help students succeed in the world. Many of my students have gone from D's and F's to A's and B's. It may take a while, as confidence is often the key factor. My approach consists of detailed comprehension and lots of praise even in the slightest gain in understanding. Praise definitely works. If you are looking for professional help with your student or yourself, please do not hesitate to contact me through this website. Blessings! My daughter has been using Ms. Deborah for a year now. Ms. Deborah has been able to get my daughter to understand high school chemistry. That is amazing! (Really amazing!) Ms. Deborah is now filling the holes left by her physics teacher so that my daughter is understanding and learning high school physics.
At a public high school of 2500 kids you don't get a choice in the teacher you are assigned. My daughter is smart, but the high school teachers are not teaching the subjects in a way that lets her understand the concepts. The high school teachers are not available for tutoring even when the student asks for it. Ms. Deborah picks up where the public teacher leaves off. My daughter is learning these subjects regardless of the high school teacher assigned to teach the subject. I am SO HAPPY we met and have been able to use the services of Ms. Deborah.
As an added bonus Ms. Deborah teaches SAT and ACT testing skills. My daughter was having trouble with the writing section of the test. Ms. Deborah worked with her on it, and the next test my daughter's score went up 70 points!!!
Deborah has been very helpful in giving my son assistance and advice on how to improve his grades in chemistry and algebra. He has gone from an F in algebra to an A currently due to her assistance. Deborah has also been tutoring him to start preparing for SAT testing next year. She has knowledge of a wide variety of subjects and a great rapport with my son. I would highly recommend her!
Awesome! Teaches in a way that my daughter understands it. My daughter loves Debbie's personality and therefore looks forward to her sessions.
She is patient, friendly and very knowledgeable. My son has improved 3 letter grades since he started 3 month ago. Highly recommend her as a math tutor.
My son wasn't sure if it would be a good fit but Deborah won him over right away. She teaches with a great sense of humor and really builds on the things he does well.
She has knowledge in many areas so when we hit her with a different subject one night, she didn't even blink, just jumped right in.
You will not be disappointed.
I can't say enough about this tutor - my son really enjoys his time and is learning a lot working with Deborah.
We are so pleased with Ms. Debbie! She is very knowledgeable, patient, and encouraging! She is a great asset to our home school studies. Today's lesson was amazing! Only 15 hours of French lessons and my 13 year old daughter and Ms. Debbie were conversing in French! It was fantastic!
Update: Still loving our lessons with Ms. Debbie! When I hear my 10 and 13 year old girls speaking French with her I can't believe it! I am so proud of them and we definitely couldn't have done it without Ms. Debbie.
My son came out of tutoring yesterday so happy. I asked how it went. He stated "good! I am finally learning how to speak French!" After which he started speaking whole sentences to me. This is after having been taught in school for 1/2 years and knew little to nothing. After only a few sessions with Debbie, he can use some complete sentences! Thanks Debbie
Extremely patient, knowledgeable and knows how to teach. My son increased his EOC grade by 200 points having been with Deborah for only 3 weeks - no other tutor was able to get through to him the way Deborah did. I am totally committed to working with her on all levels. On a scale of 1-10, she is an eleven.
My student is pleased with this tutoring.
We are happy to report the environment is relaxed, Deborah is pleasant, and my daughter is gaining valuable insight as Deborah is able to identify the students needs with specific focus. The direction from tutor to student for work to perform on her own time is proper & encouraging.
Happy Dad here.
Debra is such a amazing tutor. Honest and straight forward with you and your child's progress. My son has come so far in Algebra from a low C average to a 100% on his progress report this nine weeks. I highly recommend her.
This is our second semester with Deborah and we see an improvement in our son's grades and confidence compared with the beginning of last school year. For the first time in almost two years, he volunteered an answer in class, and went up to the board. That would have been unthinkable in the past.
Deborah received the highest compliment from him: "if all my teachers were like her, I might actually like school." Deborah is a true blessing.
Deborah was very kind, patient, and easy to learn from. She squeezed me in when every needed and even spent four hours with me at a time. She is a nice person with a lot of knowledge and I am so thankful to have found her. I will use her in the future for all my tutoring needs! Thanks Deborah!
This was my daughter's first lesson, however I am very pleased with Deborah's patience. My daughter finished with a little more confidence in her abilities in math and chemistry which I pray will translate into much improved test scores in both subject.
In this difficult economic times, I found it very moving that this tutor thought of sending my son back home with a Christmas gift. My son also came back understanding what was difficult for him before.
Deborah has been such a wonderful tutor for my son. He has improved so much in Math. He has regained confidence in his abilities and his grades have gone up. I would highly recommend Deborah. My son is 17 and has not resisted going to tutoring which is amazing. She has worked very well with my teen.
I would like to tell whom ever, that Deborah is a fantastic tutor. I have a 17yr son who thinks that she is the best instructor he has ever had, and to have a child think that of you is unheard of. We have nothing to complain about regarding the instruction she has given my son and would like to say if the rest of your tutors are like her you are indeed a blessed group of people.
I was so pleased and surprised at the amount of work that was accomplished in such a short time. I was so pleased that I have now recommended her to a friend.
My son has struggled with Algebra and Geometry for the last 2 years. In just 2 weeks of meeting with Deborah, my son has a more positive outlook about Math and already feels like he has a clearer understanding of the concepts they went over. Sometimes it just takes someone to present the information in a certain way that opens a child up to be receptive to the information, and for us Deborah is that person. I look forward to my son getting a jump start on Algebra 2 for the upcoming school year and know that he'll be able to go into it with more confidence. Thank you Deborah for your patience and ability to communicate effectively with our son in a manner that helps him and I am confident the continued sessions will help him to be successful through the upcoming year. I recommend Deborah to anyone with a child of any age that is struggling and needs the additional help.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Algebra 1 is foundational to a student's life and ability to succeed in any area in today's modern world. With lots of tutoring success stories over the years, I see that the challenge of doing well in Algebra 1 is crucial to their self esteem and desire to take any more math. Let me help your student succeed and enjoy math, contact me today. :-)
This year I have had a lot of algebra 2 honors students. One of them came to me with a 28 grade point average. She now has a 90+ grade point average. As I share a few insights, they can often grasp and succeed in areas of algebra 2 that prior were not understood. Success is often a state of mind and I approach tutoring with the idea that the student feel like they are succeeding in even the smallest areas of improvement. This often carries over to making their dreams of not only passing but increasing their grades by many letters come true.
While attending FSU in Tallahassee I had the great priviledge of living abroad in Florence, Italy. During the six months there, I was able to study art history from the birthplace of the Renaissance. After that I also studied art history in Paris, London and New York City. I obtained my BFA from the University of South Florida and entered their Master's program in painting/printmaking.
I also have a degree in Cultural Anthropology that gave me the opportunity to study aboriginal art and cave art. The study of art history is the study of the voice of a culture, how that culture views itself and its existence. If you need help with this field of study, I would welcome the opportunity to help.
The ASVAB is a very important test for anyone's future career in the military. If you need help, let me know today and we can set up a tutoring schedule that will help you achieve your dreams!
The call of God has been on my life since a child. I have pursued that call and became ordained through Liberty Fellowship of Churches in 1999. My husband and I have been in fulltime ministry for 20 years. Currently I am completing a book on prayer and intercession. If you would like to brush up on your knowledge of the Bible or pursue and in-depth study, I would love to help you pursue your dream. Contact me through Wyzant and we can be like the Bereans (Acts 17:11) and search the Scriptures daily.
Chemistry gets to the very foundation of what this world is made up of. This is the approach that I use that inspires students to be more interested in and thus improve their grades. They often find a drive to succeed in chemistry.
French is such a beautiful language and one that can be acquired with patience and diligence. Having a BA in French, being a member in the French Honor Society and having lived in France all help me be a tutor that can help you learn French with confidence.
Geometry is often misunderstood by students because of the concepts that are being taught, that differ from algebra. With some help, I have seen many start to enjoy geometry and see the importance of doing well in this important subject.
Since pre-teen years I have drawn and painted and won awards. The love of painting and art grew and I pursued it at Florida State University to receive it as a minor. I travelled and lived in Paris,France, Florence, Italy and New York City learning of the great Masters and viewing and studying original artwork. The love of painting grew so much that I pursued and obtained a BFA at the University of South Florida and entered their Masters program. I won best of show in painting at their Fine Arts Student show and received a years scholarship to continue studying art.
Acrylic, Oil and watercolor are my favorite painting media. Along with Mono prints and multi media graphics. Would love to share the love of painting with you. Painting can enrich your world.
As my Physics teacher explained, Physics is about understanding how and why things move and react as they do. I tutor from the standpoint that Physics is basic to life and fascinating!
