I was a Navy pilot for 28 years after graduating the University of Rochester, New York, where I also was a catcher on the baseball team. I mostly flew jets in the navy, and landed on an Aircraft Carrier over 500 times, 200 of those at night. After the Navy, I taught 6th through 8th grade math in Virginia Beach, Virginia. I thoroughly enjoy teaching, and math is a passion of mine. I moved to Florida in 2015 to take care of my aging father, where I certified to substitute teach in the Pinellas schools. For me, teaching is not a job, but a truly engaging vocation.
In Virginia, I raised 2 daughters and 3 sons, who are now anywhere from 21 to 38 years old. I coached and played many sports with these kids, which gave me an understanding of how to communicate with them, and at least a vision of their point of view. I love my kids, their friends, and found joy in watching them in their varied activities and growing into responsible young citizens. I tried to instill in them the importance of hard work, honest effort, and to have fun along the way no matter how tough the journey.
I love the subject of math, and try to make the learning entertaining. I understand the complexities of learning math and the frustrations encountered. I strive to alleviate most of this struggle and cross the bridge to true understanding.
I am very flexible and accommodating with my time. I am retired from all jobs here in Florida and can be most places anytime needed. I am easy to get along with, and revel in the success of my students.
