I am a senior Aerospace Engineering (astronautics) major at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Daytona Beach. I am originally from Germany but moved to Boston about 10 years ago. I have been tutoring various academic subjects from Thermodynamics to CAD here at Embry-Riddle for almost 2 years. My first year of University (and tutoring) started during the Pandemic which gave me plenty of experience with online tutoring. I have mostly taught college students in classes I have already taken though I have occasionally taught High School students in AP classes. I usually tutored in a classroom, as I was hired by my University, though I don't mind going to a library or home.

My approach to tutoring starts with the student. Every person learns differently, which is exactly why individually tailored tutoring is so important. Some people may benefit from learning-by-doing while other people may enjoy a classroom-type lecture. There are so many different ways to learn and absorb information, so the most important task I have when I start tutoring is to figure out which way works best for you. I have found some tutors to totally disregard this and I believe it is what separates a good tutor from a bad one.

For the last 2 Semesters, I was lucky enough to be on the dean's list in the Engineering department. So it's no surprise that I specialize in teaching Physics and Mathematics. They are my best subjects and the ones I enjoy teaching most. I have also served as a grader for Calculus 3 and have gotten an A in every single Math class I have taken throughout my time at Riddle.

Besides tutoring academics, I have also been a guitar and music theory teacher and I am currently the President of the ERAU Musicians Club, a place for local musicians to mingle and host events.

Whether you are just trying to improve your Calculus, a beginner guitarist hoping to learn more about music, or anything in-between; I would be happy to help you!

German

Born in Germany, lived there for 12 years until moving to the United States.
Guitar

Guitar

I have been playing electric and acoustic guitars for over 9 years now. I have taken 3 years of formal music education and performed at various concerts and events. I am currently the President of the ERAU Musicians Club where I continue to organize and play at events and provide a place for musicians in Daytona.
Mechanical Engineering

Mechanical Engineering

I have completed the entire Aerospace Engineering Fundamentals program and am currently only taking very specific aerospace-related classes. Aerospace Engineering is considered one of the hardest, if not the hardest engineering discipline and is just an extension of the mechanical engineering curriculum. As an Aerospace Engineer, I have had to go through both the Mechanical and Electrical Engineering curriculum. The additional content included in the Aerospace Engineering curriculum mostly pertains to Aerodynamics, Orbital mechanics, and high levels of Chemistry or Quantum Mechanics, depending on the focus chosen (None of which are required in a ME major). In fact, Aerospace Engineers are considered the only Engineers that are not required to take the FE and PE exam because of our infamously rigorous coursework.
Physics

Physics

3+Year of Aerospace Engineering section Physics. 2+ Years of Physics tutoring experience. 2+ Years of Chemistry and Thermochemistry. 1.5+ Years tutoring experience

Smart and knows what they’re talking about

I had my first session with Jan and we jumped right into the thick of it wasting no time. Time is money so I appreciated it a lot. Jan is knowledgeable and talked to me in a way I can understand( less like a professor and more like a peer). Amazing tutor for my college physics. I’ve already set up multiple sessions!

knowledgeable and patient

I recently had the privilege of being tutored by Jan, a phenomenal drones and computer science expert. From the very beginning, Jan's depth of knowledge was evident. Not only did he assist me in connecting the radio to the drone, but he also delved deep into the intricate computer engineering aspects of the drone, ensuring I comprehended every detail. What stood out most was Jan's ability to break down complex concepts into understandable chunks. He ensured I grasped the foundations before moving onto more advanced topics. Jan's patience truly sets him apart; never once did he rush through a topic or show any frustration, no matter how many times I requested clarification. His passion for drones and computer science is contagious, making each session with him both informative and enjoyable.
