For most of my adult life, I've been a teacher, counselor, instructor, mentor, or tutor. My passion is effective communications with others, and the special bond of mutual trust and satisfaction that develops between student and tutor. An unusual mix of experience, education, and training uniquely qualifies me for this effort:
-Undergraduate degree emphasis in history, ancient and modern languages, & sociology;
-MBA degree, emphasis in finance, systems analysis, and business policy/communications;
-Partial coursework completed toward master of arts in education/state teaching certification;
-Retired Commander, US Navy; decorated combat veteran of Vietnam, Gulf War, and Somalia; Muslim and African Cultural Specialist, with basic language ability in Arabic, French, German, Greek, and Swahili;

My specialty is English language arts: written and oral communication, grammar, reading, writing, and ESL. I can also tutor effectively in business topics, history, general liberal arts subjects, physical sciences, and different levels of self-defense training. I also provide individualized career counseling and skills/needs assessments.
Excellence is my hallmark; I apply a lifetime of maintaining the highest ethical and performance standards to my work. Since I'm now retired from careers in the Navy, state of Florida, and federal government, my tutoring schedule is quite flexible. I have an office in my home near Jacksonville Beach, but can also travel to a student's location. I appreciate 24-hour cancellation notice.
For an extraordinarily rich learning experience, I encourage any student interested in my exclusive brand of "high-caliber" assistance to contact me for an interview. I can guarantee the outstanding results that come from close and personal attention to each individual student's needs. My satisfaction comes from exceeding your expectations. Steve taught my son so much in a two hour lesson. My son was focused the entire time, as Steve kept his interest. I saw immediate improvement. Steve was organized and prompt. We look forward to our next lesson! Steve does tutoring to sincerely help his clients, not for the money...
Intelligent and patient with a vast amount of experience. Steve tutored me to improve my public speaking and presentation skills. He explained the psychology behind what is happening during these moments which really helped. He coached me on body language, voice inflection, how to capture the audience, and twenty other subtle details I hadn’t thought of previously. You can’t beat the one on one coaching in an environment and with a person that ensures your success. I highly recommend Steve.
I'm having great time learning english with Steve. He showed me new concepts how to do astonishing presentations and effective communication. He also explained origins of words or idioms which helps me to remember. I want practice with him more conversation and learn all the stuff he knows :)
During my time with Steve, he was attentive with that attention on my granddaughter. He gave her some homework which, hopefully, her mother will handle. Most importantly at this early stage, my granddaughter likes him and wishes to continue lessons with him.
He is an excellent teacher, very punctual, responsible and respectful. always try to adjust to my learning needs, highly recommended
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I was a linguist in the Navy for many years, and have been a tutor/instructor for most of my adult life. I also home-schooled my own daughter (who had moderately severe ADHD) successfully in English and test preparation.
