I am a 1st year neurosurgery resident at WashU in St Louis. I received my undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina in chemistry, and during my time as an undergraduate I tutored physics, math, and chemistry in both paid and volunteer capacities. I then began medical school at the University of Florida College of Medicine where I continued tutoring anatomy and 1st year classes in volunteer and paid capacities. I am a 1st year neurosurgery resident at WashU in St Louis. I received my undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina in chemistry, and during my time as an undergraduate I tutored physics, math, and chemistry in both paid and volunteer capacities. I then began medical school at the University of Florida College of Medicine where I continued tutoring anatomy and 1st year classes in volunteer and paid capacities. For the 1st year courses, I edited powerpoints and led review sessions for 1st year medical students. Thus, my prior tutoring experiences have been primarily college and graduate students. I have tutored for about 4 years total. I have tutored in both small group as well as 1 on 1 settings.

My tutoring philosophy is to encourage active learning by asking questions to my clients. Even when a student does not know a specific question, they can often be led to the correct answer with thoughtful and patient questioning. Another key component of my tutoring practice is to encourage efficient and intentional content review/studying OUTSIDE of the tutoring sessions. This is critical because tutoring cannot make up for time needed to learn information, rather tutoring is meant to improve understanding of processes and/or problem-solving.

I am a 4th year medical student who just matched neurosurgery, and I got a 524 on my MCAT to get into medical school. I understand the hard work, and the test taking strategies, necessary to score highly on the MCAT. I can help build a study plan or with specific questions on content.
USMLE

USMLE

I passed USMLE step 1 on my first attempt and scored a 268 on USMLE Step 2 which is around the 90th percentile. This score helped me match neurosurgery, one of the most competitive medical specialties. My success in medical school and on these exams makes me qualified to tutor them.
