I am a FL certified instructor (English 6-12) with well over 10 years of classroom experience, who has earned Teacher of the Year distinction. I possess reading endorsement, TESOL/TOEFL certification, and ESOL endorsement.

With experience teaching in both physical and virtual environments, I have taught English and reading courses from the remedial levels through Advanced Placement. I have also worked as a credit retrieval and adult ed. instructor, as well as advisor for varied creative writing clubs and literary/art journals. As such, and with my previous tutoring and substitute experience, I have direct knowledge in not only English and reading, but also in the instruction of standardized testing, math, social studies, Spanish, computer science, and other general ed. course work.

As a result of these successful experiences serving as a teacher in both physical and online environments, I am capable of offering both face-to-face and virtual tutoring support.

I have experience tutoring individuals from varied backgrounds and with varied needs. I have worked with students ranging from young children through adult learners. I have aided students in passing GED and TOEFL examination, raising class grades (multiple letter grades), passing classes with which they've had a history of difficulty, improving written compositions, bolstering subject-matter prowess, learning more of the English language, and improving upon English-language communication-- to name a few. I have worked with students who were both native speakers, as well as those from other countries who had minimal experience with the English language.

Having worked as a mentor teacher for University of Florida interns and also as an English Dept. Co-Chair, I feel comfortable tutoring or mentoring future instructors who are preparing to take the battery of certification examinations. I also feel comfortable mentoring new instructors who are beginning in the classroom and are managing the varied demands of planning, instruction, feedback, and classroom management. I have a multitude of professional development experiences to aid in this cause, ranging from differentiated instruction through Socratic seminars and Professional Learning Communities. I was also an active member of school leadership teams and am competent in mentoring new instructors.

I have degree and research experiences in psychology (development and behaviorism), language development, business (I possess an MSE), and graduate-level education and English. I have also completed church leadership training and have capabilities to guide in spiritual matters and religious instruction.

I am patient, personable, and eager to help regardless of how long it takes. I seek to support and challenge students, while developing a relationship to create trust and a sense of enthusiasm. Not only will I provide direct support during our tutoring sessions, but will also provide homework activities to further sustain growth between live sessions.

In addition, I will provide detailed progress reports and feedback, while maintaining a policy of open communication so that both students and parents are firmly included throughout the process.

Client satisfaction is important to me and I will strive to keep high levels of satisfaction, growth, and rapport. If you should ever feel dissatisfied with a lesson for any reason, communicate with me and a satisfactory resolution will quickly be sought.

Finally, I am aware that sometimes a question may arise outside of the scope of a live tutoring session. I will therefore make myself reasonably accessible for questions via email, text, or phone in between sessions. This is because I earnestly care for your success and never want my students to feel alone in the process of educating and improving oneself.

I am absolutely confident that we can work together to achieve amazing results. I can't wait to help!

Thank you for your time and enjoy your day.

Business

Business,

Business

I have a Masters in Entrepreneurial Sciences from the University of Florida with high marks in my classes. In addition, I earned membership in the Beta Gamma Sigma business honors society. Finally, I have previous experiences working with my parents and their business ventures.
Career Development,

Career Development

Working with high school students, I have had many opportunities to mentor others in their career development. As an English teacher, business writing (i.e. resumes, cover letters, etc.) is part of the standards that we explore. It is an important area to both teach and help through the feedback/editing stages, as students are just beginning to create, understand, and use such documents. Additionally, college preparation is another area where I have experience mentoring young adults. With this, we explore cover letters, admission essays, applications, standardized testing, career planning, program options, financial aid, etc. Career research and exploration has been reviewed with various students, and we have broken down the process in varied forms as a result. Working to help students recover credits or complete G.E.D. study also ties in nicely with career development discussion and improvement. I have also been called upon repeatedly to give reference, complete reference documents, or pen letters of reference. As a result, I can lend this perspective in helping others with their career development questions and plans. Finally, I have served as a mentor for both intern and experienced teachers, while also acting as English Department Co-Chair. This has given another perspective on career development, as it specifically relates to education.
Marketing,

Marketing

I have a master's business degree in entrepreneurial sciences. I earned lifetime membership to the business honors society Beta Gamma Sigma as a result of academic achievement during this degree. Market analysis was part of the course load.
Public Speaking,

Public Speaking

I engage in public speaking regularly, from leading classroom lectures and lessons to being enthusiastically engaged in promotional work. Every year my public speaking and teaching performance was periodically evaluated by the administration, who would provide feedback while certifying my standing as a highly qualified educator. All such reviews have always proved above-standard by far. My speaking ability was evaluated both via live and virtual platforms, as my lessons have existed in both physical and virtual classrooms. As a teacher of secondary English, public speaking is most certainly a type of communication covered by the common core (and previous sunshine state/next gen. standards). As such, I have varied experiences in guiding and evaluating students in all aspects of effective speaking and listening. This has happened in many forms. Included would be my training and experience as mentor teacher for intern teachers and English Dept. Co-Chair, as both enabled me to model, remediate, and evaluate the public speaking of fellow instructors. Finally, my experience as a student has taught much in the way of public speaking. This was found not only in the speech classroom, but also in the requirement of graduate-level presentations, discussions, and my role as the lead speaker for my entrepreneurial group.

Elementary Education

Elementary (K-6th),

Elementary (K-6th)

I am a professionally certified teacher of English 6-12 who has a reading endorsement. This reading endorsement branches my English certification to cover many of the elementary level reading and English skills. In addition, I have substitute taught all subjects in elementary school and have a daughter in elementary (as well as a preschool son) in whose education and development I am fully and obviously invested. Her success can also attest to some of my skill. She receives consistently high marks on report cards, tests, and course work. She comes to me for all homework review. She is being tested for gifted and so far has done exceedingly well on all battery of tests. I began teaching her through 2nd grade math when she was in VPK, etc. In addition, I have tutored elementary and middle school children, including nieces and nephews. In addition, my almost-complete ESOL endorsement and the TESOL/TEFL endorsement I've started both apply to this level of skill.
Elementary Math,

Elementary Math

I am heavily active in the education and overall development of my two children, one 7 (entering 2nd grade) and one 2 1/2. I began working with my daughter through 2nd grade math before she even entered kindergarten and she is now entering the second grade with an advanced performance in math and her general elementary studies. She is also being tested for gifted as a result of her overall performance. My father taught me algebra in elementary school and so I have been comfortable with math at an early age and can explain it to younger students, as a result. Additionally, I have experience in all elementary grades and subject areas as I have substitute teaching experience and also outside tutoring experience. This experience goes beyond elementary, as I have taught high school and GED levels and have tutored students in high school and college math.

I am also working on completing ESOL endorsement and securing TESOL/TEFOL certification. All skills in these areas also lend themselves toward the successful instruction of reading. I also worked remediation sessions to assist those struggling with standardized testing, from FCAT through ACT/SAT. During college, I worked as a research assistant in the Child Language Learning Lab and have numerous educational experiences in learning more about the development of thought, language, and children. In addition, I am thoroughly invested in the education and development of my two children, who are enjoying advanced communicative success. Finally, I have tutored varied individuals of all age ranges and was directly involved in the language growth of young family members as well as those under my tutelage.

Study skills is part of the English standards I was responsible to teach my high school students. It is also an integral part of any classroom instruction. As a result, I am well versed in teaching a myriad of study skill options and activities to students of all levels, ranging from remedial/dropout prevention through Advanced Placement and college. Note-taking techniques, outlining, exam preparation, standardized testing preparation, active reading, and metacognition are just a few of the areas I have explored with my students over the years. In addition, I have found lessons in study skills helpful when trying to mentor and tutor students as they work to improve their scholastic standing and recover credits or pass the G.E.D. I have taken over 700 hours of professional development through the various school districts in which I worked, and many of these courses incorporated study skills into the subject matter in some form. Completing high school at an honors level and continuing on through undergraduate and graduate studies, I have also had to develop my own repertoire of study skills and have used this experience to help others with their own toolbox of study skills.

Best, dedicate tutor I’ve ever had!

I worked with Rachel for my graduate school essays. I had few tutors before but she is the most patient and dedicate tutor I’ve ever had. I asked for grammar help, for every part I’ve done wrong, she not only correct it but also explained the similar concept to me and even give me links to website reaching grammar for me to have a better understanding of them. Her corrections are beyond my expectations-and I believe working with Rachel wasp definitely strength my writing skills💖 In addition, she also gives first hour free for first time students so that helps me out financially, too. Lastly, she is very patient to communicate with students. I stressed a couple concerns to her and she is so willing to create a schedule that fits me personally. I really recommend Rachel to anyone who NOT ONLY look to solve current confusions BUT ALSO grow in long term wise. Will definitely come back in the future to work with her. Thank YOU Rachel!!!

Great tutor

My experience with Rachel was awesome, she is very kind and patient and she cares a lot about her students. I took TOEFL lessons with her to improve my score to get accepted into dental residency program. She was so patient with me and she used to explain everything about reading which was the most difficult part for me, also she helped me a lot with my writings and vocabulary. She sent me passages to read and practice, she used to let me do writings and she check them and send me her feedback, she kept asking about my scores and encouraging me even after we finished the lessons, until finally I scored 93 which is more than the score I needed, and I got accepted into the program. I really appreciated her caring and checking on my progression. I highly recommend her.

First class tutor!

Rachel is a phenomenal teacher that students learn from so well. She is totally committed to the student's success and goes out of her way to accommodate the student's learning style and other special needs. If your student seems uninterested in learning, Rachel is a good bet to get the student re-involved in his or her education. My student had great results with Rachel online and I couldn't recommend Rachel more highly.

Caring, knowledgable, nonjudgmental tutor

My son has been getting a lot out of his sessions with Rachel. One of his first comments was that she was nonjudgmental. She has assisted him in every subject towards the GED; and she has helped him get through the testing language. Super communicative and invested. I highly recommend Rachel!
