About Matt

I have more than 20 years experience working in engineering and informatics specializing in mathematical modeling, knowledge engineering, data/information modeling, ontologies, programming, and databases.

I have spent the past 20 years designing and building computerized decision support systems. These systems are a combination of production rule systems, logic trees, and logical graphs (cyclic and acyclic). I have taught decision making at the graduate level to informatics students. I have also studied analog and digital circuit design.

I have been an instructor / mentor / tutor for students from first grade through graduate school. I prefer traditional in-person interactive sessions, but video chat / Skype / FaceTime sessions after initial session are acceptable.

I had a math emphasis (7 courses) during undergraduate education.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I am a trained engineer and have tutored students with ADHD and dyslexia for over 20 years. I have also served in the Alachua County Public Schools as a substitute math and science teacher.

Biology

College and graduate work in biology, microbiology, and human life sciences.
30 years experience tutoring and teaching middle school and high school physical and life sciences.

General Computer

I have over 30 years of experience building and using computers for general office use. I have provided training and support for general office computers and desktop applications for over 25 years. I am experienced with MS-DOS, Windows, Apple OS, and Linux.
In addition to my use and support experience, I have specified and configured computers for specific needs as a salesperson, a consultant, and a corporate employee.
I have specialized skills in developing, training users, and supporting medical software, especially electronic medical record systems and computerized decision support tools.

Logic

I have spent the past 20 years designing and building computerized decision support systems. These systems are a combination of production rule systems, logic trees, and logical graphs (cyclic and acyclic). I have taught decision making at the graduate level to informatics students. I have also studied analog and digital circuit design.

Microsoft Access

I have over 15 years developing small and large databases in MS Access. These databases include departmental medical record systems, clinical decision support systems, and front-ends for SQL Server databases. The databases include significant VBA code that supports forms and serve as pseudo stored procedures.

Pascal

I have over 25 years of experience programming with Pascal on both small and large projects. I have successfully created both stand-alone Pascal applications and utility programs. I have taught Pascal to beginning programmers for over 5 years.

Trigonometry

I have 30 years experience as a math tutor.
I have 25 years experience as an engineer using trigonometry, calculus, and algebra.

Visual Basic

I have over 15 years of experience programming with Visual Basic on both small and large projects. I have successfully created both stand-alone VB applications and utility programs. My Visual Basic applications have been used at the departmental and local office level for over 10 years.
