Hello! I'm Zoe, and I have a degree from the University of Connecticut in Biomedical Engineering. I minored in French and Physiology & Neurobiology. I'm currently a Ph.D. student in the same field at the University of Florida. My informal tutoring in Connecticut developed into formal tutoring in Florida, so I have lots of experience with different learning styles, new ways to come at complex concepts, and working with my students to get their best results possible. I also have experience managing my own ADHD and proving that it doesn't have to be a barrier to success.

At UConn, I was a TA for 3 undergraduate classes. I led lab sections, mentored project groups, and helped students determine how to tackle large problems. At UF, I took up tutoring for the school, where I covered subjects from introductory algebra to multivariable calculus and introductory biology to biochemistry. Between these, I also taught at a virtual camp for two summers, where I led various STEM classes.

I now focus on working with students to find areas of weakness and strengthen them. Whether that's working on homework with me to help or reviewing entire lectures, my priority is making sure each student is having their individual needs met. Because of this, I do ask students to provide any materials they would like to review before we start a session. By the end of a session, my goal is that students will have identified potential weak points and have a foundation to start repairing them independently.

Approved Subjects

Anatomy

Anatomy

I am a 4th-year PhD student in biomedical engineering, with an undergraduate degree in the same field. I also minored in Physiology & Neurobiology, involving multiple classes in enhanced anatomy and physiology.
Biochemistry

Biochemistry

My graduate work is in molecular biology, which is highly related to biochemistry. Not only have I taken multiple classes in and around biochemistry in my undergraduate work, I tutored biochemistry in Fall 2022 and Spring 2023. I also received an A in a graduate-level biochemistry/molecular biology class and was the teaching assistant for our program's undergraduate equivalent.
Calculus

Calculus

In high school, I took AP Calculus BC and received a 5 on the exam. In my undergraduate studies, I took multivariable calculus and differential equations, as well as classes building on those concepts and their applications. I have been tutoring students in calculus classes for 2+ years and focus heavily on understanding concepts rather than how to answer specific questions.
Genetics

Genetics

I started my PhD program in biomedical engineering in August 2021. Since then, I have focused on molecular biology, epigenomics, proteomics, and genetics in my research. I have also taken and succeeded in the following classes: Gene and Immunotherapy, Principles of Immunology, Advanced Molecular & Cell Biology, and Fundamentals of Cancer Biology. As a TA for our undergrad program's equivalent of intro biochem, I taught lectures centering around genetic engineering topics.

Friendly and super smart!

Zoe was great! Very approachable and funny; she was able to explain things in a way that made it easier for me to understand. We had a lot to cover but Zoe made sure I understood before moving forward, and she even offered to go longer to make sure we could cover as much ground as possible. Looking forward to more sessions with her!
