Hi! My name is Karen and I enjoy working with students to increase their understanding of English, math and science. I have a degree in Engineering and almost 30 years of experience in working with students of all ages, levels and backgrounds. I have worked as a private tutor for 20 years with students in their homes, and also owned and operated a private K-12 school with individual programs for each student during that time. Prior to the pandemic, I was an executive in a business delivering educational seminars to corporate executives. In 2020, I became an online tutor. I am internationally certified to teach English as a second language and enjoy helping students with English, math or science.

As a private tutor, I have a unique approach to helping students. First, I find out what they want to learn and what they didn't understand in that subject. Once we clear that up, then we work on improving skills until the student feels able to continue independently. I can usually simplify the subject so that a student can easily grasp the concepts, especially when they appear to be complicated.

I opened a private school to give my own children and others like them personalized instruction and a positive environment in which to learn. The school grew over 10 years with students who wanted individualized programs and the opportunity to learn at their own pace. Now, my children are grown and successful adults who love to read and learn whatever catches their interest. I bring this same approach to tutoring and have successfully helped every student who had even a small desire to learn. After I received my Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, I realized that I really enjoyed helping others learn to understand and use math. I became a private tutor for students in K - 12 in many different subjects, from basic to advanced courses. The students I tutored were amazed at my ability to make complicated subjects simple.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

As both a private tutor for 20 years and a private school owner for 10 years, I found that many students misunderstood basic concepts in Algebra 1. When they get to Algebra 2, it is very confusing for them. I help students understand the earlier concepts so that they can do the harder work in Algebra 2.
Elementary Math

Elementary Math

I enjoy working with students in all levels of math. I break difficult problems down into easy steps and recommend skills that should be practiced. With my engineering background I can also show how these skills can be applied to make life easier.

I have experience working with students from Europe, the Middle East, Asia and South America to improve speaking, reading, and writing of English. I put a lot of attention on understanding both written and spoken English to improve these skills. I also do everything possible to make this an enjoyable experience so the student will want to continue!
