In today's society, receiving a good education is a pivotal step to reaching your life goals. As a motivator, a trainer, and as a person who leads by example, I take pride into helping, educating and encouraging others who need my advice or assistance. In addition, I am also a good listener for those who need a good listening ear. One way that I help others is to tutor math students; from children who are in their early grade school years, to young adults seeking a higher education. I may not be a teacher or an educator by trade; however, my communication skills and my expertise with assisting others in need, along with my math skills, are more than sufficient to help a student improve his or her grades in mathematics.

During my years in the banking industry, I have acquired customer service and communication skills and I also learned to train and educate co-workers, internal and external customers on various processes and procedures. These skills are vital in tutoring students, especially a subject where many students struggle with. I started my tutoring business in 2012, and use the same approach when communicating with students and parents about providing assistance in the subject. Now that my tutoring business has become a full-time practice, I am able to provide the personal touch that a student needs to learn and eventually master this subject we call mathematics.

During my grade school years, I excelled in mathematics. In 8th grade, I was introduced to Algebra I, and finished my grade school days taking Trigonometry and Functions, in which I achieved grades of a B+ or higher. In my junior year in high school, I scored in the top 15 percent nationally in math on my SATs. During my two years at Howard University, I took Calculus, which was a little more challenging, but it sharpened my math skills to a greater extent.

In my adult years, as I gained experience in dealing with people from a personal and business standpoint, I helped family members and friends with their math problems as a courtesy.

I currently tutor students in Elementary math, from 1st to 6th grade. When tutoring a child that is currently in grades kindergarten through 6th grade, I test the child's skills in the four operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division). If there is a weakness in calculating any of those operations, I have the expertise to help the child improve his or her math grade. With a young child, a tutor has to show patience, because a child can: 1) get easily distracted by his or her surroundings, and 2) young children tend not to learn a process as quickly. My credentials prove that I am more than capable of tutoring a young child in Elementary Math.

Excellent explanations and patience

My son is very shy and is typically afraid to ask questions. He enjoyed his lesson with Rodney and was comfortable asking questions and answering. I look forward to seeing my son excel in his studies.

Rodney has been helping our son catch up on 4th grade math skills. Our son is more confident and less anxious about math. We will continue to work with Rodney .

Very impressed / 6th grade math

My son really enjoyed the session and said he was able to understand the problem he was struggling with much better and was able to complete the assignment that had him so stressed he broke down crying the day before. His Virtual School teacher wasn't able to ensure he understood and referred him back to the online lesson he had already reviewed a dozen times but wasn't helping him at all. I reviewed it and it didn't help me to understand it so that I could help him. I almost cried too...lol. for reference, in case another parents child is struggling with the same problem....it was mixed number fractions in a rectangular shape (LxWxH) that you had to figure out how many 1/4 by 1/4 by 1/4 could fit in it.... Rodney is going to help him build a better foundation of multiplication, division and fractions as those are the main parts of all math problems. I'm excited for my son to work with him a few hours a week to build his confidence and knowledge in math through his 6th grade year.

Patient and very knowledgeable

Rodney is very patient with my son. There are times that he guesses on his answers instead of working them out and Rodney works with my son to help him get to the correct answer. We are very happy with Rodney.
