I also have experience developing science based curriculum (Next Generation Science Standards) for use in both in school and out of school environments and have tutoring experience in various subjects including reading, math (basic math, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, calculus), science (chemistry, biology, physics), engineering and various areas of technology.

My personal philosophy about learning involves helping students make connections between their interests and the subject matter that they need to learn. I love to use analogies, current events, games and puzzles, and arts, crafts, and model building to add spice to lessons and bring them to life. My tutoring schedule is flexible and I am willing to work with you to help you achieve your learning goals.

I have a love for math and problem solving and have had math courses up to Differential Equations (Calculus 4). I also have experience with Statistics.

I am a scientist and engineer by training with my major areas of interest and training in science focused on chemistry, physics, and biology. I have post doctoral training in these areas.

I would love to have the opportunity to talk with you further about how we can work together to enhance your knowledge foundation for wonderful future career opportunities in business, education, engineering, medicine, or science and technology.

Astronomy

Astronomy

I read a wide range of books in the field of quantum physics and astronomy. I teach a class in biomedical applications of origami. We embark on a wonderful journey which takes us from "Quarks to Quasars" as we learn about the subatomic particles that make up matter and their origin in stars.
Bible Studies

Bible Studies

I have been a student of the Bible for many decades. I have been involved in individual Bible study as well as group studies in both formal and informal environments. I find the stories in the Bible, both Old and New Testaments, to be a wonderful account of God’s Love for all men and women.
Chemical Engineering

Chemical Engineering

I am qualified to tutor in the area of chemical Engineering based on the similar features that Chemical Engineering shares with Ceramic Engineering which is my degree area (B.Sc., M.Sc., and PhD). Ceramic Science and Engineering focuses on the chemistry and engineering of clay based materials and shares a number of knowledge/course subjects with Chemical Engineering such as Thermodynamics, Heat Transfer, Chemistry, Fluid Dynamics, and Colloid Chemistry. I have taken many courses which included these topics and other advanced topics which have provided me with a strong background to tutor in the area of Chemical Engineering.
Chemistry

Chemistry

I am passionate about chemistry and my research involves studying bone chemistry and developing materials to improve the healing and remodeling of bone. I have experience in many fields of chemistry including organic, materials chemistry, inorganic, polymer, colloid, and clay chemistry.
Drawing

Drawing

I have experience in writing, drawing and illustrating children’s stories that being engaging characters to life. The stories integrate aspects of science and math to help students see the possibilities that exist for them to enhance their learning. I also enjoy helping scholars develop their own characters and stories to bring new inspiration into their studies.
Elementary (K-6th)

Elementary (K-6th)

I am a college professor who is very passionate about K-12 Educational Outreach. I work with a number of Elementary and Middle Schools and assist students in learning math and science topics with integrated reading and writing at a deeper level. I have over 200 hours of instructional time over the past two years at the K-6 level.
Homeschool

Homeschool

I have had the pleasure of working with a number of homeschooled scholars over my teaching career. I have taught home school subjects including math, chemistry, and reading to individual and groups of students. I have also helped mentor home schooled scholars in science fair projects that have won national competitions.
Physics

Physics

I like to use analogies to help explain the physics behind real life events and phenomena that range from quarks (atomic and subatomic particle events) to quasars (massive stars, solar systems, and galaxies). I am a scientist and engineer by training with my major areas of interest and training in science focused on chemistry, physics, and biology. I have post doctoral training in these areas.
Public Speaking

Public Speaking

My qualifications to serve as a tutor in the subject area of public speaking are based on my professional experiences as a university professor. I have over 20 years of speaking in public to audiences that span the range from excited preschool children to professionals in science and engineering fields. Regents

Regents

I have experience in tutoring many topics that are covered on the regents exams. I can help students review and master content for Chemistry. I can help students review master content for Algebra I and Algebra II. I am also able to assist students in geomentry, trigonometry, and physics and life sciences.
Study Skills

Study Skills

I have been in the field of education for almost 20 years. This is after completing many years of study which includes High School graduation, Undergraduate and Graduate Studies, Completion of a PhD Degree, and two post docs. I have logged in countless hours of studying and planning how to study and learning about study skills. Knowledgeable and Patient Tutor

Otto's teaching style keeps my son engaged. He understands how he thinks. I especially like that he doesn't say things like, that's wrong or that's not right. Instead, he says, "Careful" and asks the question again or "Careful, what should you do here."

Very knowledgeable and patient.

Otto helped my son with remembering to slow down and focus on the basics. He was patient and had such a nice demeanor. We have had other tutors, and they didn't really work out. Though we've only had one lesson thus far, I can see this being a great fit overall for my son! Thanks so much.
